Now that we’re a couple of blocks into the Summer Sampler quilt along, I thought it would be good to present a couple of ideas for your block settings so you can choose those fabrics and set them aside.
I’ll be presenting tutorials for 6 blocks in all, and so you’ll have the choice of a six-block quilt, or if you make two of each block as I am, you’ll be able to make a twelve-block sampler.
First up: the twelve block sampler setting instructions…even if you’re not quilting along with the summer sampler series, these settings can be used for putting together any orphan blocks of this size.
12-Block (for finished blocks 6″ x 6″) Sampler Setting (23″ x 30″)
Note: all seams are ¼″. Wait to cut your borders until your quilt center is complete: use your quilt measurements.
Fabric Requirements:
- ¼ yard sashing fabric
- 1 charm square (5″ x5″) for sashing posts
- ¼ yard border fabric
- ¼ yard binding fabric
- ⅞ yard backing
Cutting:
- (12) 6″ x 6″ (finished–6 ½″ x 6 ½″ unfinished) quilt blocks
- (17) 1 ½″ x 6 ½″ sashing strips
- (6) 1 ½″ x 1 ½″ post squares
- (2) 1 ¾″ x 27 ½″ side border rectangles
- (2) 1 ¾″ x 23″ top and bottom border rectangles.
- Cut 3 strips 2 ¼″ x width of fabric for binding.
6-Block (for finished blocks 6″ x 6″) Sampler Setting (19 ½″ x 26 ½″)
Note: all seams are ¼″. Wait to cut your borders until your quilt center is complete: use your quilt measurements.
Fabric Requirements:
- ⅓ yard sashing fabric and inner border
- ⅛ yard for sashing posts
- ¼ yard border fabric
- ¼ yard binding fabric
- ¾ yard backing
Cutting:
- (6) 6″ x 6″ (finished–6 ½″ x 6 ½″ unfinished) quilt blocks
- (17) 1 ½″ x 6 ½″ sashing strips
- (12) 1 ½″ x 1 ½″ post squares
- (2) 1 ¼″ x 22 ½″ left and right inner border rectangles
- (2) 1 ¼″ x 17″ top and bottom inner border rectangles
- (2) 1 ¾″ x 24″ left and right border rectangles
- (2) 1 ¾″ x 19 ½″ top and bottom border rectangles
- Cut 3 strips 2 ¼″ x width of fabric for binding.
I hope that having the setting and fabric information now will make it easier for everyone to finish their samplers. I’m also preparing a PDF with this information and will have it available for free download later this week…I’ll let you know as soon as it’s up!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
