Hello! Today I have a finished quilt to share! My older daughter is expecting a baby boy to join their family this summer, and so I had to hurry and get at least one quilt finished up for this little guy before the baby shower! I hope to make her a couple more…but one had to be all the way finished.
You might remember that I posted about this quilt here…and I was able to
have my friend Gail quilt it so that I wouldn’t be late with this one! My older daughter has always loved this fabric combination…even when she was a little girl she gravitated toward warm browns and coordinating blues and greens. So I know she’ll be a little more than excited when she sees this quilt!
These fat quarters from Lily and Will and Lily and Will II had just been sitting on a shelf for a few years. I always feel so good when I use something I’ve been saving for just the right project!
My initial plan was to back this with a cream Moda Snuggles, but when I unfolded the last of my bolt there wasn’t enough. I do have enough to back a smaller baby quilt, so I’ll probably just make a whole cloth top to use with the Snuggles. But I found some Bonnie & Camille flannel in the closet that made a perfect soft backing for this! The aqua wasn’t a perfect match for the blues on the front of the quilt, but it’s pretty close and doesn’t clash. I had two fat quarters left from the Lily & Will fabrics that weren’t used for the quilt top, so I alternated strips of each for the binding. I’m so happy with the look it gives…scrappy, but just the right mix of each print!
Now I just need to get this wrapped up in a cute bag! I’m working on another one, but probably won’t have it quilted in time for the shower…and then I have an idea for a third one, too…baby quilts are so much fun!
This quilt finishes at 48″ x 60″ which is a perfect baby quilt/crib quilt size! I will definitely use this simple pattern again…and also plan to use it for sewing up some of my ever-multiplying scrap collection! (You can find the pattern here in PDF or paper).
Happy quilting, and thanks so much for stopping by!

Such a pretty color combination! I am working on about 5 baby quilts right now. Three tops are pieced so far, but none are quilted. 🙁

Beautiful work! I am looking forward to upgrading my machine so I can actually "quilt" a blanket!

Love it! It has a nostalgic look–reminds me of the colonial retrospective we had in the early 1980s.
