Yes, this is Carrie’s new book…sitting on my sewing table…I can’t believe it! Yesterday I was able to take a class with Carrie in St. George; everyone was worried the books wouldn’t arrive in time, but they made it! Not only did the books arrive, but Carrie brought several quilts from the book with her as part of her trunk show that evening!
We had a great group of about 15 ladies who sewed, laughed, ate, and sewed–we all got to spend a good amount of time asking Carrie questions and soaking up her amazing creativity. And she really is the nicest person…she just makes you feel like you’ve known her forever! After a delicious dinner prepared by Shirley, the owner of Scrapapple Quilts, we were treated to Carrie’s trunk show (I’ll show pictures from the trunk show in my next post).
Most of us worked on quilts from the new book (well, everyone except a few fun gals who shall remain nameless…lol…they worked on some other amazing patterns designed by Carrie). I chose to make “Plan C” in the larger size. I used a layer cake, charm pack and fat quarter of Martinique, one charm pack of Park Avenue, and four different tonal creams for backgrounds. I was really pleased with how it went together. Adding in the Park Avenue was a last minute decision, and I think the darker browns, reds, and blues from that line really make the quilt “sparkle.”
We had received cutting instructions before class; it was nice to be able to start right in sewing when class began. I was able to put all the rows together before leaving yesterday evening and just have the piano key border to add to finish this up! I got home pretty late last night, but even though I was tired I stayed up and read Carrie’s book cover-to-cover. It really is the most wonderful book, written in Carrie’s down-to-earth and entertaining style…and you get instructions for 12 wonderful Schnibbles along with instructions to make those same 12 quilts in a larger size…so 24 patterns in all. I want to make all of them…in both sizes…needless to say, I highly recommend Schnibbles Times Two: Quilts from 5″ or 10″ Squares (That Patchwork Place) ! I’ll be back soon with trunk show photos…have a great weekend!

Oh lucky you! It sounds like you had the nicest day! I agree, having all the cutting done ahead of time is a great idea for a class. Too many distractions and opportunities to make mistakes if you cut at the class.
As if I wasn't already on pins and needles waiting for this book, after reading your post I can hardly stand it, like waiting for Santa Claus when I was a kid.
I've signed up for a class with Carrie this fall, I can hardly wait.
Your quilt is lovely, very clever the way you mixed your families.
Thanks so much for sharing, I'm eager to see the trunk show pictures.

Am I jealous much? You must have just had the best time ever! And you are right, that book is so full of great patterns, we are going to be busy for a couple of years making them! I love what you did in class.

What a thrill that you got to meet Carrie! And spend the day sewing and hanging out with her. Sounds like a perfect day. That was a good idea to get cutting instructions ahead of time so you could just dig in. I need to remember that for quilting retreats. Thanks for sharing this. I'm off to check out her books.
