Hello and welcome to month six of the 2017 Quilting Life Mystery Block of the Month! I can’t believe we are half-way through making this quilt, but is sure is fun seeing the blocks accumulate each month!
Since we are at the half-way point, look at all of your blocks together before
choosing fabrics for block six. Try to use a color/colors you need more of in your quilt at this point. Keeping the colors balanced along the way will make it easier to make color choices near the end of this quilt along. I noticed I had more blue than any other color thus far, so I decided I would be making a pink block this month. Next month I’ll focus on green.
This month’s block is a traditional block called the Star Puzzle. I decided we also needed another star block in the mix! It’s pieced using a combination of half-square triangles and flying geese–and I sure was happy with how this one turned out!
Initially, though, I was going to use the butterfly half-square triangles on the right for my outer corner blocks. There just wasn’t enough contrast, though, and I’m so much happier with the look using the lighter floral. I’ll save the butterfly half-square triangles for a future block!
It’s always fun to look at them once again before putting them away for another month!
