Hello! It’s time for the next design in the 2017 Quilting Life Mystery Block of the Month quilt…and today I have the pattern for the April block. I absolutely love flying geese, so had to include a flying geese block in the sampler.
While there are a lot of ways to make flying geese blocks, I used the traditional
method because the trimming left overs can be used to make half-square triangles which we will use for the May block.
This block will give you the opportunity to mix and match several colors if you like. I was even able to use some of the florals with light backgrounds in this block, and they stand out well.
I love getting to this point in a block of the month project–it’s so fun to see the blocks start coming together and to be able to look at them in a group.
As I mentioned last month, I’ve been working on the setting options for this mystery quilt. You’ll be able to choose a straight set or on-point setting for either block size you’re working on. You might also notice that the on-point setting has 13 blocks…I’ll be providing a bonus block later in the year that you can use for this setting. I have been working on the finishing yardage amounts needed for each of the settings and will have those available for download soon.
If you’re ready to get sewing, you can download the PDF for this month’s block here!
I hope you’re enjoying making these blocks…I’ve been getting some emails with photos of blocks, and it’s really been fun to see them all. Thanks so much for stopping by!

I like how the flying geese make a pinwheel design.

I love your block but I didn't make one of your BOMs yet. I'm saving them and hope to soon find the time to make them.

Thank you for this block of the month, Sherri! Your pretty block inspired me to try it out, and now I'll need to go back and do the other months. With two quilt finishes I am ready to add one back to the WIP list :-). Looking forward to next month!
