Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing the A Quilting Life Quilt Block of the Month December 2024 with the additional finishing information for both the large block and the small block quilt. My larger quilt is finished and bound, and my smaller quilt is ready to head to the quilter. Keep reading for all of the details, this month’s video, and a look ahead to 2025.
Quilt Block of the Month December 2024
December Block Details
This month’s block features a center made up of four flying geese units and four rectangles. The large portions of the flying geese units create a secondary pinwheel design. I did use Bloc Loc rulers for the flying geese in both of the blocks.
Finishing Details
I ended up finishing both quilts the same way with a simple sashing and cornerstones. I used the aqua gingham for my large quilt but loved using a tone on tone floral for my smaller quilt! The smaller quilt is perfect for a wall hanging and could also make a lovely baby quilt! The larger quilt is such a nice size to use on a twin bed or as a large lap quilt. Marion Bott quilted the large quilt using an all-over pattern called Daisy Cross.
December Block + Finishing Video
Watch this month’s block and finishing video above or watch it on our YouTube channel. I share more block details and thoughts about construction in the block video. Plus, you can see the way I pressed the blocks in the close-up view of the block backs. Please note that you will need to download the December block and the finishing instructions separately.
2024 Quilt Along Resources
Remember, all of the block patterns for this sew along are available for free here on the blog through the end of 2024. Be sure to download all of the patterns as I will be removing them in 2025 to make room for my new sew-along patterns. Find all of the previous 2024 BOM posts and patterns by visiting the Block of the Month Archives Resources Page.
2025 Quilt Along Fabric Requirements
I’ve got the 2025 Block of the Month designed! I’m going to be sewing with our Raspberry Summer collection which will ship in early February of 2025. Laguna Sunrise would also be a wonderful collection to use for next year’s Block of the Month. And as with all of my block of the month projects, scraps are always perfect for the blocks! Be sure to download the requirements so you can start collecting fabrics now.
Sew Along in 2025
My free block of the month designs will continue to post here on the blog on the first Monday of each month beginning January 6th, 2025. I hope to see you here for another fun mystery block of the month sew along!
And please remember to download all of your 2024 block of the month patterns by the end of this year, as they will not be available here on the website after that. They will be available for purchase as a full file in my shop in 2025.
Happy Quilting!

I can’t thank you enough for your 2024 BOM pattern. I have so enjoyed receiving the new pattern each month. I’ll be sure to post my completed quilt on Instagram once completed.

Dear Sherri, Chelsi, and Billy, thank you so much for all that you do. I enjoy your chats on your podcasts and appreciate the free quilt patterns that go with your blocks of the month. I am currently undergoing chemo and have been most of this year. Since my sewing and quilting machines are upstairs, it is frequently a struggle to get upstairs to just look for fabric, much less sew. I have two more chemo treatments during December and then will have surgery sometime after the first of the year. I plan to not only work on the new 2025 blocks, but to start working on the 2024 blocks! These projects give me so much to look forward to!
I do look forward to the upcoming year and all your podcasts and blogs.
Do take care and have wonderful Christmas and New Year’s holidays!
Sincerely,
Pamelia Wimberly

Sherri, Chelsi, Billy, Thank you all for another wonderful year. I didn’t get as many quilts done as I had planned but there is always next year! I love all that you do for us, the free blocks, The Fun Pod Cast, the Blog(I love looking through them both) The cooking, the stories about your families and quilting journey’s, sharing the wedding, and quilt market. You make me feel a part of the journey and a big part of a quilting community. You have given me much happiness and joy. I sometimes wish I had another lifetime to start over and have more fun, at 71 time is getting shorter! But I am here to live every minute.
