Hello and happy Wednesday! Thank you so much for all of the wonderful positive responses to the Scrappy Patchwork Quilt Along! I was excited to get sewing but had a really hard time deciding on fabrics!
After looking through fabrics and thinking of several different options, I finally
decided on using the left overs from the Hazel & Plum quilt market sewing I did this spring for Joanna Figueroa. I used 30 different prints and cut two squares from each giving me 60 squares 6 ½″ x 6 ½″–all ready to go!
For me, choosing fabrics for a project is usually the most difficult part. While sometimes I know exactly what I want to use for a particular project or design, most times there are so many options that it takes me a bit of deciding. Here are some helpful ideas on deciding what fabrics to use for your next project!
Finally, a couple of really good quilting resources showed up in my mailbox recently. First, the August 2017 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting arrived; I think it’s a terrific issue for several reasons: many of the projects are very pre-cut and scrap friendly, there is a very informative section on pre-cuts including ideas for tools to use with pre-cuts, there is a handy chart that shows how many squares (of a variety of sizes) you can cut from different size pre-cuts, and the magazine includes a pattern for a terrific scrap quilt in four different sizes perfect for charity quilt sewing! There are also two quilt patterns…a mini and a small wall hanging designed by Carrie Nelson which use mini charms or charm squares and a scrappy quilt pieced by editor Jody Sanders that I absolutely love!
Also pictured above is Stitched Sewing Organizers: Pretty Cases, Boxes, Pouches, Pincushions & More. This is a fun book by Aneela Hoey which includes a variety of small sewing projects for keeping organized in the sewing room and when you’re out and about! Must makes for me are a book and tool folio, a cute boxy pocket pouch, a triple pouch, fabric boxes, and a sliding fabric box. I’ll be sharing some of these projects in upcoming posts!
Remember, you can still join in the sew along…find the original Scrappy Patchwork Quilt Sew Along post here!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Love the fabrics you've picked for the sew-along. I still wait a bit and finish some projects first.
Aneela's book is on my wishlist but I would love to hear what you think of it. I've bought one of her patterns I think it's a bit confusing. Are the patterns in the book better?
I hope I can find the issue here will look at central station tommorrow.
