Today is the first day of school in our house. My normal “first day” excitement is mixed with some sadness, though, because my youngest is a senior in high school….so this is our last “first day.” At the same time I’m excited for fall, excited to set “beginning of the school year goals,” and excited to have some “me” time! It’s the first day of school for me, too…in fact I’ll be off in just a minute to meet a new group of my English 101 students at the college. My schedule will be nicer this fall as I will just be teaching part-time during the day and won’t have an evening class as I have had the last few semesters.
The number one goal this week is to work on my Fig Tree Farmer’s Wife quilt. While working on the blocks I’ve kept them contained in a plastic shoe box…and now it’s time to set them together!
It just amazes me that this is a stack of 111 blocks and that this represents a project I’ve been working on for over a year!
My 7 yards of sashing fabric arrived the other day–I’m using Moda Bella Snow which coordinates perfectly with the Fig Tree lines. This will be the first king-sized quilt I’ve made in a few years–it will be great to have a new quilt for the master bedroom!
Wish me luck…the plan is to have all the blocks sashed and set together by the end of the week!
Have a wonderful day!

The stack does not look like much, but it is a lot of work, and what a sense of contentment knowing you are almost done!

I absolutely can't wait to see how your FT FW quilt looks when you have it sashed. I have held off starting my own for many reasons, but I also wanted to make it in a variety of FT collections, so I know I will be inspired to see yours this week! All the best with class!

I only have about 14 FW blocks made because I tried to resist making them until I got some UFO's finished. I couldn't wait though so started them. They are SO much fun to make! I think I'm going to make them over in other fabrics though because I don't like the fabrics I've been using. Hats off to you for making all the blocks! I can't wait to see how it turns out! Good job!

I admire that box of blocks so much and certainly appreciate the time you have put into them… I think that is what holds me back from making them! But it is going to be amazing once it is completed!
I know what you are saying about the first day of school… hate to mention it… but the last day will be another ruff one!

I can't wait to see it!! I hope it all goes smoothly. I'm a bit sad about school starting this year too – my youngest is starting kindergarden and I will miss having a little one at home with me.

You go girl! It will be an amazing quilt! Can't wait to see it! I have some old Fig Tree and I wondered what solid would coordinate – thanks for the info on the Moda Bella Snow! I always get great tips from you! I have been trying to just use up stash and was looking at some old Fig Tree and wondered just that very thing today – because I needed a neutral to use it up in a pattern!
