Hello and happy Friday! Last weekend I was able to make 22 more string blocks for my on-going scrappy string quilt! And it really didn’t take that long! In fact, If I had prepared just a bit more fabric before I started sewing I could have made a lot more!
I’m pretty excited to get some more fabrics ready to go and start making some
more of these blocks! They are easy to sew, perfect for when you need “mindless” sewing, and are just plain happy!
You can see my method for making string quilt blocks in this tutorial. I also wrote another post just last winter with the tips I used this weekend that made the blocks go together so quickly. I’m happy to say it worked, and I’ll be preparing another set as quick as I can so I can sit down and sew some more. You can find the post with my additional tips here.
I’m setting my small blocks together into groups of four…so I can make 5 more blocks with what I sewed this weekend!
And I’m rotating the blocks in each set of four as shown above…it’s going to be kind of a wild quilt!
But a happy quilt for sure! Have a wonderful weekend–I’ll be back tomorrow for the tenth edition of the Saturday Seven! Thanks so much for stopping by!

I love the look of your blocks! I do have a question. When using the thin muslin, do you encounter more shrinking for the muslin than the top fabric? I am not crazy about pulling off paper so have not done string piecing.

BTW, I have shared my personal tip when making string blocks but I'm not sure if I've shared them with you. I would love for someone to try my method for themselves and give me feedback. I had tried almost EVERY type of backing for string blocks and the one I now is

Oops… Did not finish, clicked send too soon. But, to continue, my go to choice of backing happened accidentally when I did not have any messages or thin muslin. I was at a group retreat, and I found some Tissue Paper that had been brought to wrap a gift. I cut squares of tissue paper as my foundation and Voila! It worked better than anything I had previously used. Specifically, the tissue was much easier to remove, almost removed itself, and didn't pull my stitches like muslin or telephone page paper.

Adding a string quilt to my list for 2018. I have the very thin muslin but none of my strips are cut into strips. So I think a movie, some ironing and cutting is in order
