Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing Moda Blockheads 6 Block 9. This month’s block is the Polaris block shared by Barb Groves of Me & My Sister Designs. I absolutely loved sewing this block. Keep reading for all of the details and block construction tips.

Moda Blockheads 6 Block 9
Block 9 Details
Block 9 uses foundation paper piecing for its construction. Normally, this construction technique is not my favorite, but this block is easy to put together, and it’s a great introduction to this method. The directions on the pattern are super easy to follow (I do have a video tutorial for this method I’ve linked below, too). I used fabrics from Raspberry Summer for my block and went with a tone-on-tone background so that the fabrics would really stand out!

Thanks again, Sherri, for having the easiest way to find and print the blockhead patterns, and today for a refresher video on paper piecing. I, too, totally dislike paper piecing and usually avoid it if possible. Your video is a great refresher course! Thrn I looked at the pattern and realized it’s Peaky and Spike, an old friend I’ve pieced before so I’ll be making templates for this block. I hate to waste fabrics and especially on this quilt I’m trying to use up scrapes, not make more!
