Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing Moda Blockheads 5 Block 29 + King-Size Setting option I’m using for my blocks. This week’s block is a striking foundation paper-pieced block by Alison Dale of Moda–it’s really stunning! I didn’t make this block, but I did get a jump-start on setting my blocks together for a king-sized quilt. Keep reading for all of the links and details.

Moda Blockheads 5 Block 29
Block 29, Maria’s Star, by Alison Dale is a gorgeous foundation paper pieced block. I seriously need to make it just to have in my collection. You’ll make four foundation pieced units and then place them together with a center square and partial seam construction.
King-Size Setting Option
Since beginning this sew along, I knew I might want to make a king-size quilt with my blocks. Nothing was coming to mind, and I really didn’t want to put blocks together without any sashing. But while I was sewing with our new Dresden cheater print with our Raspberry Summer collection, I decided I really wanted to incorporate some of those Dresden units in this quilt. Since I’d already made both 6″ and 12″ blocks that would easily combine with the Dresden squares, it seemed like the perfect way to make my quilt a little bigger without as much work, lol! Then it was just a matter of doing the math and also rotating blocks, so I didn’t have to worry about matching/not matching seams!
I’ll have directions for you soon in case you might want to also make a king-sized quilt. Additionally, any favorite focus fabric(s) would be perfect in place of the Dresden squares.

Next Week’s Block
Be sure to stop by next Wednesday when I’ll be sharing the final block for this sew along. I might even have my quilt put together by then…we’ll see. But I should at least have the directions for my setting finished up for you by then.
Happy quilting!

This is a great setting to use both block sizes and to make a larger quilt! I didn’t keep up with the quilt along but this setting inspires me to get back to making blocks!
