Hello and happy Friday! I’m super excited today to share my latest pattern–a mini version of my Mahalo quilt. I’ve wanted to make a mini version of this quilt for quite a while, but it took a little while before I finally settled on which fabrics
to use. Since I’m going to hang this mini in my sewing room I wanted it to be a
reminder of my great–great grandmother’s original quilt. I used American Jane scraps from my stash (a variety of collections) and even found a few fun American Jane backgrounds for variety!
My mini quilt turned out exactly as I had hoped, and is going to be a great addition to my wall of minis in my sewing room. The Mahalo Mini measures 14″ x 14″ and is the perfect size for wall decor, a table topper, or a pillow top.
I decided on simple cross-hatch quilting that I could do myself and that wouldn’t detract from the design. I really love it and think this quilting design would also be great with the full size Mahalo quilt.
The pattern includes directions for two different ways to make this mini…if you love applique’, the freezer paper method directions are included for making the pies. However, if applique’ is what has been keeping you from trying Mahalo, I’ve also included directions for curved piecing. You can use the included template or to make it even easier, the Creative Grids Circle Savvy Quilt Ruler (CGRSAV1) makes it a breeze to accurately cut pieces for curved piecing. This ruler is fantastic and can be used for a variety of quarter circle, half-circle, and circle projects in a great range of sizes.
(I have a video tutorial on curved piecing and on using the Circle Savvy Quilt Ruler you can find here).
For ease of hanging, I added 3″ squares folded right sides out on the diagonal before stitching the binding. I’ll be able to slip a dowel inside the little pockets which I can rest on small nails.
I hope you love Mini Mahalo as much as I do! Paper and PDF patterns are available now!
Also, if you’ve previously purchased the full-size Mahalo pattern and are interested in making it with the Circle Savvy Ruler, please email me and I’ll give you the additional information you need for that.
Finally…Craftsy is having a big sale this weekend on all quilting kits and supplies…find the sale information here!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

I love this and you have inspired me to use some of my very hefty American Jane stash. I may have to make the biggie size though. 🙂
