Little Things

Hello and happy Friday! All I wanted to do when I arrived home from market was to sew! After seeing so much inspiration and fabric goodness in just a few days, I was ready to play with fabric myself.  But I was exhausted, too…so I thought some fast and fun projects were in order!

I’ve been wanting to make this cute little thread catcher for quite a while now; I

was determined to make it after seeing it again recently on the Moda Cutting Table blog and then talking with Carrie at market about how fast and easy it was to make.

So I gathered up some The Front Porch mini charms and started sewing.  The pattern comes with a few different options, and I love the mini charm version the best.  The only thing I did differently from the pattern was to use Soft & Stable instead of batting for stabilizer.  It stands up so nicely with the Soft & Stable.  You can find the PDF pattern here.

I also set out to finish this little Fig Tree charm square table topper I’ve been wanting to make for a while, too.  I had already sewn the squares together and had this quilted before leaving for market, so all I had to do  was to trim using the scallop template and bind. (I used one charm pack of the recently shipped Hazel & Plum for my topper).  I used an older fabric for binding, but the Hazel & Plum yardage is available now.

The pattern instructions weren’t very specific about what size binding was used; however, my friend Val who shared all of her scallop/bias binding tips with me last summer when I was working on a scalloped-edge quilt suggested using 1 ¼″ single-wide bias binding to eliminate bulk.  I did that for this project and was really happy with how it turned out! (The pattern is Blossom & Jam found here in paper and PDF).

Okay…this isn’t a finish…but something fun I have to share.  In our box of goodies from Moda were the cutest Moda socks…who knew!  There was one pair for Chelsi and one pair for me…she took the white pair, and I took the black pair since we have a black Lab in our family, lol!  These will be available soon, so look for them at your favorite shop!

Finally, I found out I have just a short window of time to add things to my The Front Porch fabric order.  Is anyone interested in a Christmas bundle of just these nine prints? Fat Quarters? Half Yards?  If you are interested, please let me know and I’ll place an order.  Note: this fabric won’t arrive in time for this year’s Christmas sewing, but it will arrive early next year in time for an early start for next year!
