Hello and happy Wednesday! I’ve slowly but surely been making these fun pinwheel hexagons for the Fat Quarter Shop Little Ruby Sew Along. The blocks are really a lot of fun to make!
I’ve been using scraps from the Sundrops collection by Corey Yoder for Moda, and I decided to use the fun large floral for my contrast hexagons and triangles. This quilt just says summer to me!
The video for part 3 (you can watch it below) shows you how to lay out your half hexagons, blocks, and triangles. Then the pieces are sewn together in rows.
I pressed all of my seams open, stopping after each seam to press.
Then I sewed the rows together, again pressing the seams open.
After the rows are sewn together the edges are trimmed so they are straight. Be sure to leave ¼″ for the seam allowance. (The untrimmed example is below, and my trimmed example is the first photo in this post).
The final video shows the row/quilt construction.
My June Sew Sampler box arrived the other day, too! It’s full of fun goodies…a pattern, Riley Blake solids in a rainbow of fun colors, a Frixion pen, blue Alpha bitties, a 2 ½″ x 2 ½″ square ruler, and some cute Fat Quarter Shop ribbon. It’s always fun to see what is in the box!
Hope you’re getting some sewing done…I’m off to do a little cleaning in my sewing room so I can start some new projects.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

I love Corey's Sundrops fabric. Your quilt is looking great. I have all my half hexagons sewn together, but I am waiting a couple of weeks to assemble the quilt since I will be at a retreat, and I can use the giant design wall to lay out the quilt before sewing. Last night I finished another quilt to the same stage. Can't wait to get those quilt tops put together!
