Yesterday Block #2 arrived from the 2011 Designer Mystery Block of the Month from FatQuarterShop. It looked like such a fun block that I started it right away.
On Saturday I had a long list of projects I wanted to accomplish. Needless to say, it’s a good thing I had a plan “B.” First, my older daughter was in town for the day and asked if I could re-make her lanyard. She uses it nearly every day at work and thought the fabric was pretty bad. She chose some Hope Valley from my stash, and I set to work. I think it turned out pretty well. I saved the measurements in case I want to make another or do a tutorial. But, the lanyard was about all I accomplished before a sudden “micro-burst” took out our power and brought a 30-foot section of one of our neighbor’s trees crashing into our back yard. Luckily, there was no damage done to the block wall fence or any of our shrubs.
Although there was no power, I decided to cut out some Farmer’s Wife blocks. Here is block #11 “Broken Dishes” in some Fig Tree fabrics.
And here is Block #58, “Mother’s Dream” also sewn with some scraps from my Fig Tree stash.
The Fig Tree version blocks so far…
Here is the Christmas version of “Mother’s dream.”
And the Christmas version of “Broken Dishes.”
And the Christmas set so far.
The power came back on, and I was able to bind one quilt–my Bliss Sugar Twist quilt. I love the fun back nearly as much as the front…and was so happy to be able to bind it in the Bliss red tonal fabric (thank you, my friend, for that fabric)! I’ve been using a lot of 2 ¼″ strips for my bindings, but for this quilt I used 2 ½″ strips to make the red a more “definitive” finish to the edge.
Some Ruby arrived the other day, too…I think I’ll be starting Swoon with this very soon! Thanks so much for stopping by…hope you get to sew today!

I was wondering about you when I heard about the wind over there! I had that happen once… right after my husband had drove off for work, a huge gust of wind knocked over the enormous oak tree, right where he had been.
I love your FW blocks, both versions are fantastic. I haven't gotten my BOM yet… it looks like a fun block to whip up:)

That must have been a little scary having the tree land in your yard. You still got so much accomplished! Are you doing the Farmer's Wife with the templates? I've never used templates before and it took forever to cut out and came up a little small. What do you think?
Patty says
Your blocks are coming great. Glad there was not more damage in your yard.
