What are your thoughts on half-square triangles? Do you love them…or are they just a necessity in creating some of your favorite blocks? I happen to actually love them…and try to stitch them up with scraps whenever I can
You can probably imagine how excited I was the other day when I stumbled upon dozens of pressed and trim hst’s that I had forgotten about!
Of course I had to take a picture…
Or several…
And then I remembered that Camille shared a fun Craftsy video with 25 different block layouts–each using just 16 hst’s.
I started playing with Camille’s different layouts…
I didn’t even move my blocks–I just rotated them according to the diagram…
Oh, the possibilities!
Then I started sewing…a quilt is in order, of course. I was inspired by Carrie’s project using these same blocks and Thelma’s project as well. And then…Camille posted a link to the pdf for all the block designs to make it even easier…get the link from Camille’s post here!
Don’t blame me if these half-square triangle blocks keep you from doing the things on your “to do” list. My own list was side-tracked the day I found my blocks. I’m hoping to make a few a day and finish this fun project pretty quickly!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
PS Simply Small is resuming! Please send me any pictures of any projects you’ve made with 2 ½″ squares…my pattern or anyone’s pattern…a parade with prizes is coming!
Have a great day!

Your blocks/colours are lovely. I found two little buckets of triangle off-cuts this week and will be making the 25 HST blocks as well.

I love them, makes it so much easier than trying to sew the ends by themselves. I also do the one where you sew along the edges of two squares, then you have 4 pieces at once.

With the hard work already done, you can just get stuck into the block making, Sherri! I love that 3rd block that makes a square.

LOVE them! Just got a nice little pile from making some flying geese and am getting all excited! Love your idea of pairing them with white. I'm still trying to get the hang of making them really neatly though!

Hi
My eyes popped when I saw you had used Camille's fabrics as I've just done the same with a quilt design from Fat Quarterly. More half square triangles than you could imagine…..
Hopefully this link will take you to my Flickr page

I love hsts! I've been cutting more than sewing but here is one of my favorites from a Bonnie Hunter class I took awhile ago:

I can't wait to see what other projects you've come up with for the mini charms. I used your blog tutorial on the scrappy 9-patch table runner for a Christmas gift. I'll email you the pics I posted on my blog.

I'm thinking of using Camille's block layouts too. How fun that you already had all of those half-square triangles. I just emailed you a picture of my Simply Small project.

Love these HST's! I just got this fabric line too, and can't wait to make something of them. First I'll finish some unfinished business, then play with the new ones 🙂
