I just finished a project with these fabrics…Reunion by Sweetwater for Moda. LOVE this line. I’ll be able to share very soon (later this week)!
And, I’ve been trying to formulate my quilting goals for 2012 so I can officially start working on them. After reading so many amazing posts about goals and after re-evaluating the goals I set the last couple of years, I’ve narrowed it down to just a few things I want to work on.
-
First, I need to organize my small scraps by color. I really want to find an “open” way to store them as well–can anyone recommend a wire basket system?
-
I don’t have too many unfinished projects…but I would like to finish the few that I do have.
-
I want to make at least a couple of scrap quilts.
-
I want to start making Christmas gifts now.
-
I want to make labels for my quilts that are missing them.
I’ve decided that I’ll use my Saturdays to work on these goals…first Saturdays will be for organizing, second Saturdays for working on works in progress, on third Saturdays I’ll work on scrap quilts, fourth Saturdays will be for Christmas sewing, and fifth Saturdays will be for label making. I’m hoping that by sticking to this schedule I’ll be able to remember my goals and work on them each week.
Finally, congratulations to the winner of The Quilting Garden giveaway–the winner was TheWoolenRabbit . I’ll be contacting you to get your address.
Be back soon with quilty stuff!

Sherri, that sounds like a great idea. Moving my sewing room and I seem to be lost in all this fabric.
Congratulations to the winner.

hay Sherri are these recyclable? I’m so interested in this project. I export Sapphire Rings for living. I export them to different parts of the world. I want a gift packing method that is recyclable. If your one is capable just let me know via mail. Thank you

I love the idea of cropping up the month for different goals! And you reminded me that I have made several quilts and no labels this past year…yikes!

Good luck with your goals!

I like your idea of assigning the goals to different weeks. I may be able to use that for some of my tasks. I use the Closet Maid wire drawers in frames. I've been very pleased with mine, but I do have a suggestion. I bought a variety of depths of drawers, thinking I would organize down to fine distinctions in the shallow drawers. I do that some, but I don't think it's a good use of space and it's easier to return a piece to the big "blue" bin than to remember where exactly it came from. The medium (2 runner drawers are about right.

i love your list, but i really love that you have applied it to the calendar. what a great way to get things done for sure!
happy sewing in 2012!

those sound like very realistic goals!! and your schedule is also doable, although here her, saturdays never pan out the way i want with any ME time…so good luck!! but really, even if you can just focus 30 minutes on each goal, you will get there!

You have some good plans, I need to finished more projects than I start. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds great! I have a list…I will be "calendaring" it!! Thanks! As for scraps. I use smallish (LOL!) plastic baskets from Walmart (I think they have similar stuff at Dollar Stores, sort by color. They live on a shelf…When I need/want a color I grab the basket. Also when trimming a fabric I can take the basket to where I am and put the scraps in right away.

Sounds like a great system. My Satrudays always get taken up with stuff other than sewing.

Wow – that's an awesome plan Sherri. I can't wait to watch your Saturdays in progress!

Great list of goals, Sherri! They sound fun and achievable. I also love the way you're going to approach them by working towards them on Saturdays. Good luck to you!

I love your goals! sounds totally doable and I am with you on sewing for Christmas, NOW! 🙂
I just got all my scraps organized my color but they are just in clear shoe box size plastic containers…I wish I could store them how Jodi and Pleasant Home has hers, they are in wire bins…If I can find space in my craft room to have wire bins, I am totally doing it!
I need some of that Reunion fabric…so cute and pretty!

I love this line – can't wait to see your finished project. Great goals. Please share how you organize your scraps – I could use some tips!

Wire baskets! I couldn't live without them. 🙂
If you're looking for something with options, and something that will last for awhile, I love the elfa system. I get it from The Container Store. The best thing about it is that it can be configured the way you want it as far as width, height, drawer size and so on. The components come in platinum and white, and the drawers come in two different types – a large grid and mesh. I recommend the mesh.
I also recommend the Narrow or Medium width frames. When they're filled with fabric, the Wide drawers get too heavy to slide open easily.
Actually, The Container Store is a good place to look for wire baskets. They have chrome wire storage baskets, and a vintage-looking wire basket called Marche. They're very irregular looking and while they aren't really heavy-duty, they're really nice.
If you like an "industrial" sort of look, you won't go wrong with locker baskets. They can be found at a pretty good price on eBay.
I look forward to seeing your re-organization. And all the wonderful things you're going to make this year. Thank you in advance. 🙂

I like the idea of goals rather than resolutions! Thanks… I may use that approach myself.
I also LOVE the idea of choosing one day per week for working toward the goals. It's do-able and more important, it should keep you moving toward your goal rather than just thinking about it (been there, done that!).

Your goals are great, and you sound so organized about going after them. Sigh — I wanna be like that!
Patty says
great goals good luck achieving them.

Love the Reunion fabric. I really do. I haven't even had time to get my goals sorted out yet. How sad! We are already done with our first week of classes, though. 🙂

Greetings! I was reading your blog today and saw the link to this one…and your comment about scrap organization. I have two:
I have a rolling shelf/basket thingie (The ANTONIUS frame and baskets) that I bought at IKEA that has different size baskets that hang from it. It has a white laminate top that is exactly the right size for my cutting mat and a good height, so I cut on top of it! (well small projects) It's great for scrap storange and works in progress.
I also use their children's TROFAST wood frame and plastic bins to keep my fat quarters organized! (they come in various sizes and stack!) It's a LOT cheaper than what I found other places and I love that my scraps roll!!
