I’ve officially finished my Blogger Girls Block of the Month quilt top, and I’m in love with it. I really want to get going on my 10 Things This Summer list and just couldn’t feel good about starting some new things without finishing up this quilt I started last December.
The pattern is by Monique Dillard, and I used 2 Layer Cakes and yardage from Indigo Crossing by Minick & Simpson for Moda. The finished size is 70″ x 87″. This is my first blue and cream quilt, and I can definitely see more in my future (I’m already thinking of a Schnibbles project with my scraps)! Now I just need to figure out the quilting. I’m pretty sure a quilt that took this much work deserves custom quilting…
I’ve named this quilt “Gatherings.” I thought a lot about “gathering” as I was finishing it up. We gather friends and experiences throughout our lives. We gather together to sew, to visit, to share and to learn. Gathering is something our great grandmothers and their grandmothers before them did as they sat in sewing circles and quilting bees.
As quilters we gather bits and pieces of inspiration from many different places. Yes, “Gatherings” is a good name for this quilt.
Thanks so much for stopping by…have a wonderful day!

So lovely, I am sitting on my hands resisting starting something similar!

This turned out so beautiful. The (I'm sorry I cant remember what you called it, but the pieced diamond sashing) between the blocks really set this apart from other quilts. I love the cream/blue coloring. Gatherings is a perfect name for it.

This is beautiful, Sherri. What a great quilt. I spent time yesterday putting together my "Ten Things" and also downloading all of the patterns for these blocks. It is very likely in my future, too! Thanks for sharing!

It is a beautiful quilt, Sherri. I have never made a two color quilt and I am really liking it. There might just be one in my future.

This is a beautiful quilt! I've saved the instructions and mean to do it "sometime" in red and cream. I only hope it turns out almost as lovely as yours! You are truly an inspiration. Thank you.

How meaningful and beautiful! It reminds me of porcelain that I brought back with me from a trip… Lovely!
Vroomans' Quilts says
Well it is a blue quilt, so I love it. But, Gatherings and the meanings behind it is so descriptive of this quilt. I just think the sashing setting is so ideal. Yes, porcelain figurines and dishware and old world blue/white – very much my Dutch heritage – just is a delightful quilt.

Lovely quilt. Love the blue and white.

So beautiful! You did a great job of stitching this and absolutely LOVE the blues and creams combo! There's also a lot of thoughts gathered into a quilt. I can remember almost everything that was happening in my life at the time I created a piece simply by looking at it…

Awesome Job Sherri! I still love that blue and it looks so so neat in this quilt, it was the perfect color to use 🙂

Your quilt looks great: I'll bet you feel wonderful seeing it done! I'm still behind (I finished two each of blocks 1 & 2) and I've got to get going on the rest! things like Schnibbles keep getting in the way! I am almost finished with the last Schnibbles: I know I'm late, but I made it bigger and added sashing, and I'm really happy with it. I'll post it on my flicker account (I don't have a blog) and give you the link when I'm done. Have great day Sherri!! Hugs, H in Healdsburg

I am in love with your quilt too! It is so effective just using the blues and whites. It would look really good in my seaside home – if I had one! xCathy

Sherri, it is WONDERFUL!!!!!! I think your name is perfect and custom quilting will be the perfect finish! I had wanted to get mine custom quilted but settled for a local gal who is doing a star design. SInce mine is red, hite, and blue with lots of star fabric 🙂 I think it will turn out well. You are right, this quilt took LOTS of work and it deserves a stunning finish! :)BTW..I really love blue and cream, I almost did mine in the same fabric. 🙂

Stunning! I love it. I have already made 2 blue and white quilts this year (lap quilts using Spa by Deb Strain) and love them too. I am glad I have saved all the patterns for this one — making it will go on my bucket list.

Your "Gatherings" quilt is just stunning and like that fabric line also. I also was thinking about a schnibble top done in those colors.

What a beautiful quilt. My gosh you are talking about getting going on 10 things for summer list, I will be lucky if I get one thing done. Too much work and not enough play I'm thinking! I hope you get all ten things done and have a wonderful time doing them 🙂
