Friday Favorites: Quilt Shops & More!

Hello! As I mentioned earlier this week, I had a wonderful time visiting the Road to California quilt show in Ontario, California last weekend! My earlier post shared some of my favorites from the show.

Today I thought I’d share a little bit about some of the other aspects of the
show…first is the cute Alexander Henry fabric created especially for the event. I purchased the print in canvas for a future ironing board cover!

On Saturday we did a little shop-hopping. The first stop was Primitive Gatherings in Murietta. I’ve been to the Primitive Gatherings shop in Wisconsin, and so I was really looking forward to seeing the California version.

Lisa’s California shop did not disappoint. While a good portion of the store has the same feeling as the Wisconsin shop, there is also a terrific supply of bright and modern fabrics, including lots of wonderful Bella solids!

The staff was super friendly and helpful, and I had a great time making sure I got to see every area of the shop!

Our next stop was the Temecula Quilt Co. in Temecula! This beautiful shop was organized and a treat for the eyes. It is a smaller shop, but every area is beautifully curated, and there are lots of fun goodies at every turn.

You’ll find lots of inspiration and more in the well-lit shop. We were able to meet the owner, too, and she was especially nice. She even recommended a restaurant in the same shopping center for our lunch; we loved our lunch at Aztek Tacos…I will definitely have to eat there again one of these days!

Our final stop for the day was the Needle in a Fabric Stash shop–a bright store with terrific personnel and lovely fabric and displays. Again…I loved this shop also and will definitely stop by again!

I also want to share some of the goodies I found in California. One of my first purchases was these Creative Grids Non-Slip Rotary Cutting Circles. I actually purchased these from Annie’s booth at the show. She uses these circles to round the corners of her bags and other quilted items. I’m constantly looking for bowls, dishes, and spools of thread to round my corners, so I thought these would be really helpful. I also plan to use them as templates for an upcoming project.

I bought a few paper pieces, too. I still love my 1″ hexies, but I thought it would be fun to have some smaller ones on hand as well. And the 1″ honeycombs will work with my hexies!

Back at Annie’s booth I also purchased some of her wonderful zippers. I always buy the 30″ or 40″ double slide zippers which I can use for 2+ projects each (Annie also sells additional zipper pulls to use with left over zipper pieces). I feel like this is a really economical way to purchase zippers since I can almost always divide the cost by two or three depending on how many items I make with it. I also love the way these zippers look in my projects. They are a bit wider than your traditional zippers and are easier to sew with.

And, I purchased just a little bit of fabric…Carkai by Carolyn Friedlander in ivory, some neutral Cotton + Steel, the lovely Art Gallery “Maker” fabric, and two fun kitchen prints for oven mitts (for gifts).

Finally…I couldn’t go home without a little bit of perle cotton. I found some colors that perfectly matched my Fig Tree wools. I know there is a lovely Aurifloss collection to go with the wools as well, but I just couldn’t pass these up!
