Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing a little about my Favorite Quilting Threads. We recently taped a podcast episode (I’ll link it below) where we discussed this topic, and I thought it would be nice to have some of my go-to tips in one place here on my website. Keep reading for thoughts about threads plus find coordinates for our two collections currently in shops: Laguna Sunrise and Raspberry Summer.

Favorite Quilting Threads
I’ve been using Aurifil thread for quite a while now–back to the early days of blogging even. I remember being introduced to this thread by a shop owner, and while it was a little pricier than what I had been used to paying at the time, I immediately noticed a difference in quality. So for the past 15 years or so, my primary thread choice is always Aurifil. I use 50-weight Aurifil for all of my piecing and binding. (I’ll share my favorite colors and tips for that below).
Raspberry Summer Collection Aurifil Coordinates
Since Raspberry Summer Fabrics are now shipping, I’ll share the colors I have on hand for sewing. (The Raspberry Summer fabrics contain a lovely rainbow of color as seen in the photo above).
- Red (medium red)
- Pink (blush)
- Orange (golden honey)
- Yellow (lemon)
- Light Green (spring green)
- Dark Green (grass green)
- Aqua (pale green)
- Teal (light juniper)
- Navy (medium delft blue)
Laguna Sunrise Aurifil Coordinates
Laguna Sunrise fabrics are readily available in shops now. Here are the Aurifil coordinates for that collection. Please note that red, orange, light green are the same for both collections:
- Red (medium red)
- Orange (golden honey)
- Citrine (gold yellow)
- Light Green (spring green)
- Light Aqua (platinum)
- Medium Teal (medium juniper)
- Orchid (light orchid)
Piecing and Binding Favorites
As I mentioned above, I use 50 weight Aurifil for all of my piecing and binding. For piecing I like to purchase the long-arm cones and use a thread stand. For binding I use a color to match the binding as best I can, going lighter rather than darker if I don’t have an exact match. My favorite colors for piecing are:
- I use Natural White for most piecing
- More colors that work great for piecing are White, Light Sand, and Dove
- Listen to our podcast episode where we discuss thread
- I use these needles for binding
I hope you enjoyed this post on my Favorite Quilting Thread.
Happy quilting!
