Hello! Today I’m posting as part of the Classic & Heirloom Quilts Sew Along sponsored by Fat Quarter Shop! I was happy to be asked to participate because this is an amazing book!
There are eight 1800’s inspired quilts in the book, and each quilt can be made
in three different sizes: mini, lap, and queen. So if you have a quilt you think you might want to make, it’s easy to make a sample block in mini size to audition your fabric choices.
The book begins with a little bit of historical information about the inspiration for the quilt designs, and the book is also filled with beautiful quilt photography showcasing each of the quilts.
I had a hard time deciding which pattern to play with because I had so many favorites, but I finally decided on the “Stepping Out” quilt since I’d never pieced anything of the kind before. I cut some mini charm squares into the required sizes and started sewing.
A couple of tips if you make this quilt: press seams open when sewing the rectangles together, and back stitch when sewing the rows together. This will help keep everything together until you finish the quilt.
You can go here find the Classic & Heirloom Quilts book …and you can also watch the Classic & Heirloom video on You Tube!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

I totally agree with Hildy. Your colors are absolutely beautiful and they work together very well. The cheddar in the mix is great

Those colors you've combined are so yummy! Sherri, that is going to be one beautiful quilt! Betsy's book looks wonderful. I have never sewn blocks like that either.

All those little pieces! Way to much for me. I would never get the quilt finished. Looks beautiful though

I recognized your prints right away since I have a Floral Gatherings Fat Eighth bundle sitting out ready to be cut into. 🙂 Thank you for the piecing and pressing tips. Little pieces can be difficult to work with if you aren't precise!

I have never pieced like this before either, and I love the way this looks. I have some of the fabrics that you are using, and I think they look perfect in this pattern!
