Every year I try to make a Christmas quilt or wall hanging. After making and falling in love with my scrappy Trip Around the World quilt at the beginning of this year, I knew I wanted to make a scrappy Christmas Trip Around the World quilt. And I knew right from the beginning that the flannel hounds tooth print from Bonnie & Camille’s Vintage Modern line would be the back (I’d been saving this fabric for a Christmas quilt back for a while).
My scrappy Christmas quilt measures 60″ x 72″ and is made up of 30 blocks. I actually only had to make 9 of the blocks because I cut up strips and sent them to my quilting Bee ladies; I had 21 blocks returned to me! Some of the Bee ladies even added fabrics that I didn’t have. It was incredible…Christmas collections I’d loved but missed out on came back to me in some of the blocks.
I think I love this scrappy quilt even more than my first scrappy trip around the world quilt.
It was really hard to piece the last block last night. I might have been having withdrawals from working on this project!
Now I think I might need to make a Scrappy Trip quilt every year. Maybe I can come up with a different theme for each year?
Because this quilt was just too much fun!
I used the Bonnie Hunter method for my blocks that you can find here.
I’ve already got an appointment for this to be quilted…before Christmas even…yay!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Love it Sherri! Can't wait to see it all quilted up! 🙂 I made a scrappy trip quilt too (I think mine is 7×7 if I remember right) – and I have yet to baste/quilt it. I have TOO many tops made and not quilted!

I love your quilt, and you're right, that houndstooth is the perfect backing! My perfect backing is the red, green, and white chevron from Kate Spain's Joy line. I have enough to back two Christmas quilts and am working on piecing one of them now. 🙂

Oh my goodness, that is such a gorgeous quilt! You'll have to have Christmas everyday … No way you can put that away in a cupboard!
Carol says
What a wonderful quilt! I have a scrappy tatw made in over a hundred bright fabrics from the 90's, but it still needs to be quilted. I don't think I've seen a tatw that wasn't lovable. Now you need a hallowe'en quilt and maybe a red one for valentine's day – for a start.

I remember when you started your Scrappy Trips in Christmas fabrics, and I thought it was such a good idea! Even though I already have made a S.T., I may follow your example and make another one with Christmas scraps too 🙂
