I know you’ve seen both of these quilts before…here and.here and here…so why did it take me until now to get the outer borders on? “Vanilla and Blooms” had 3 borders, but “Sugar Twist” only had 1…why, oh why do I procrastinate adding borders? Does anyone have any suggestions? I seem to be border challenged! Now for those backs….
Karen en Marc says
I think the hardest part of quilting is the border. I never know what to do with them. I hope you find the inspiration, fingers crossed. I do like you're quilts anyhow.
Darlene says
I wish I had a sage answer for you but it's just not something you enjoy. 🙂
Sinta Renee says
Maybe, just maybe, you have enjoyed making the pattern sooo much that you aren't ready to be done with the quilt!
passingdowncrazy says
I'm the same way!!! It just seems to take so long when you think you're almost finished.
Suzanne says
I'm actually good about getting borders done…my stumbling block is binding!
Barb says
I think that even if you have procrastinated you are on the right track now…just keep the momentum going….love them!!
Deb says
I wish that I could help you out with that one. I have one quilt (for my sister, no less) that has been sitting waiting for borders for 5 years. I guess I should pull it out soon……maybe tomorrow…….. :o)
Homer and Queen says
I am with you on that one. I HATE putting on borders and have about 6 of them to do. Let me know when you find a way to make that a happier process.
Mama Pea says
I do the same thing for some reason. I have been finding I do better with pieced borders. I enjoy the piecing. I think it's because you're so close to the end, and now you've seen the top come together. It's a low point in the process for me.
Linda says
When you're adding more than one border to a quilt, sew the borders together FIRST, then sew them to the quilt center. It makes your life much easier!
traceyjay says
I'm border challenged myself. I've got a quilt just waiting for them, but grrr… don't wanna do 'em.
Can't wait to see these all quilted! 🙂
Kylie says
I am good with borders but it is the quilting and binding that pulls me up. xxx
Hi! My name is erica. Would you be my friend? says
I really love the fabric in the top one's borders! I can't stand putting on borders…the long pieces of fabric just aren't as fun to sew as the little blocks for me. I don't really like put all the finished blocks together either. 🙂
Quilter Kathy says
I am exactly the same way…it's boring and I'd rather do anything else 🙂 I usually have to bribe myself to put the borders on!
Michele says
I think borders just aren't as fun to make as the blocks!
Material Mary says
I also suffer from border phobia– I have 2 or 3 quilts that have hung in the closet for 2+ years now because I for some reason am not finishing them. Good luck. The quilts are gorgeous!!
Mary
Dianne says
I'm backing challenged…I just don't enjoy figuring them out.
Patty says
I'm kind of like that with borders. When I get the body of the quilt finished, I'm ready for something new.
Carol T says
I don't have a problem with borders. It means I am almost finished and then I can start a new quilt. How do you find the time to get so much done? Your quilts are looking really cute.
Mary on Lake Pulaski says
Just know how good you'll feel Sherri if the border starts becoming part of piecing the quilt top.
Peddlecar Quilts says
I'm with you Sherri–I hate borders too. Even more than binding! lol! Now I precut all the borders to size, and lay the sides in one place and all the top and bottom border strips in another. Then I pin 2 opposite borders at a time, sew and press them, then turn the quilt and add the other two. I keep doing this until they are all done. I've never really had a problem with the measurements either. That way they are ready to sew and it seems to take less time. It has helped me!!
Shelley says
Doesn't it feel great to have the tops done!! Borders have never been a problem for me ,,it's the row piecing that gives me a pain LOL!
Christy says
Your quilts look beautiful! Would love to see them unfolded! I don't mind the borders, it's the binding and labels that always get me. By then, I feel done and am ready to move on to the next project!
Kim D. says
I'm a procrastinator also when it comes to borders, I have three quilts that need borders right now. I don't even mind hand sewing the bindings on, but sometimes it takes me awhile to do that too. These two quilts are lovely!
Carrie P. says
I just don't like making borders. that's all there is to it. lol
Jan Marie says
I have the same problem with bindings. I saw your paper roses quilt over at green fairy. Oh my, it is fabulous.
Carol says
I'm pretty good at getting the border on…I tell myself it's the frame, and when I get that done it's ready for the quilter…yes, I talk to myself…LOL! It's the binding that usually takes me forever.
Carrie says
Maybe you enjoyed making the quilt so much that you don't want the time to be "over", you're trying to make it last just a little while longer. Or maybe you just don't like borders… 🙂
Micki says
I love the quilts..you just have to get the motivation to finish them.
Micki
Jackie says
Borders aren't as much fun as the rest of the quilt process. And they get wavy. Ugh!
Nathalie says
The fun is in creating and piecing the middle section. I have a lovely collection of finished quilt tops, but I can't be bothered to make the backs for them. LOL I guess it's always something.
fionabakesandcrafts says
By the time it comes to get the borders on I'm usually pretty motivated cause it means that the end is in sight!
Lori says
I always hated borders until I found a good spot to lay them out to measure. And a good tape measure. It helps but I'm still not fond of borders!
Gnomemade says
I'm the same way! It's always the borders that hang me up – probably because I'm scared they won't lay flat!
