Hello friends! Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and weekend! I’ll be putting all of the Christmas things away today (yes, I’m a take it down the day after kind of girl)! I just love getting organized for the new year and pondering all of the promises a new beginning brings. I’ve got some fun things in store for the new year here on the blog as well!
But first I have another quilt to share…this is one of those simple quilts that
can go together in an afternoon. My oldest son had been asking for a quilt, and I thought a nice masculine lap-quilt would be just the thing.
I had a Layer Cake on hand of these Minick & Simpson homespun collection from about a year ago I think. I purchased some Primitive Gatherings flannels for a cozy backing on binding (got them on sale while visiting Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe last September).
The combination of simple squares (I sewed the Layer Cake squares together as is) and the masculine designs on the fabric made for a fun quilt.
Plus, Marion, who did the quilting, came up with a perfect pattern…it’s not too feminine, and yet has curves that add some depth to the design.
This is definitely one of those quilts that I want to be used. A lot!
Quilt Details:
- Finished size is 57″ x 66.5″
- 42 blocks
- Fabric is Cottonworks Wovens by Minick & Simpson
- Backing and binding are Primitive Gatherings Flannel
It was made with love and is cozy as can be (perfect for the remaining cold-weather months ahead)!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Oh I love that you take things down today … I do too. I find that once Christmas Day is past I want to get rid of all the shiny objects and frenzy associated with the holidays. I like to sit with a cup of tea, some Christmas baking and a fire and just breathe in the calmness. Ahhhhh!

Very nice quilt, perfect for a boy. I don't into decorating for Christmas anymore. The children are gone and it is too much work. I do get out 'winter' quilts to use. I guess I decorate by the seasons, not the holidays. Enjoy getting organized for the New Year!

I made a layer cake quilt last fall for my daughter-in-law. I spotted the collection "Sunflower Song" by Kansas Troubles Quilters & knew it would be perfect for a birthday quilt. She loves the rusty oranges and burgundy colors & sewing up those big squares was so simple. The quilt is definitely loved and used.

A fantastic masculine quilt!! Sometimes I think we get too caught up in thinking that there has to be lots of piecing, when simple can be quite beautiful too! 🙂 Love the swirl quilting too: you're right, it adds just the right amount of depth to it! I'll bet he loved it! Hugs, H

This is beautiful, Sherri! The quilting on it just puts it over the top. I'm sure your son will love it!

Love your quilt, gave me the idea of making one for my son with flannel layer cake that I got a few years ago. Took down my decorations yesterday and started the quilt. I always enjoy your blog. You do a beautiful job,
