Hello friends. I hope you are doing well and taking good care of yourselves and your families. I think we’re in for quite a long experience with staying home. Yesterday I drove for the first time in weeks to socially distance-style drop off quilts! It felt good to get out of my house and feel a little more normal. It was definitely a simple pleasure! Today I’m sharing the Quilting Life Block of the Month 2020 | April blocks.
Quilting Life Block of the Month 2020 | April
This month’s blocks use a combination of half-square triangles and simple squares. These are the first blocks for this project that I was able to use my Balboa fabrics for, and I had fun playing with them!
April Blocks Tips and Tricks
The biggest key to this month’s blocks is to make your half-square triangles accurately and to also double check that your background squares are cut to the correct sizes. I used triangle paper for my blocks–the papers I used are below:
- Use this paper for the 6″ finished block.
- Use this paper for the 12″ finished block.
- And use this paper for the 18″ finished block.
April Blocks Video
I’ve decided to make a video each month to go along with the block pattern release. I’ll share the blocks and also go over tips and tricks (and give you a peek at the back of the quilt blocks. Watch above or go here to watch it on my YouTube channel.

Something New…Gelato Remix
I’ll be writing a full post on this new fun smaller quilt (perfect for a wall hanging or table topper). I was able to pick it up from my quilter yesterday…just need to finish up the binding! Patterns are in the shop now in both paper and PDF.
I hope you’ll enjoy the Quilting Life Block of the Month 2020 |April blocks. Happy quilting, and thanks so much for stopping by!

Love the fact that you are post a video for each block. Visual is always so much better for tips. Thank you for sharing your skills.

I’m late to the start of this quilt along but can’t wait to get started. Where do I find out how much fabric I will need for the whole project?
Jackie says
Carlan this was in the January post…I’ll have more detailed information on fabric requirements soon. But you’ll need at least 12 fat quarter for the 12″ finished blocks and 18 fat quarters for the 18″ finished blocks. You’ll also need 2 1/2-3 yards of background fabric for the smaller blocks and 3 1/2-4 yards of background if you’re making the 18″ finished blocks. Start thinking about sashing and borders, too. Again…I’ll have more information on this next month.
I got a late start too 🙂

Thank you for sharing your blocks of the month. I find your instructions easy to follow and my blocks turn out well. Looking forward to having a beautiful quilt at the end of the year.

Such a pretty block!
Fran says
Love the look of this block, maybe it is the soft fabrics. I think it might be fun to do a whole quilt with just this block.
Bobby says
I can not find the information on how much fabric we need. I’ve been known to over look things right in front of me. Hope it’s not a bother.
I really enjoy your blog.
Christine says
The blocks look like fun! What would the fabric requirement be? Could I do this with a layer cake?
Rosemary Barron says
