Hello! Part of my October was spent doing some fun, super secret sewing for my friend Joanna Figueroa. Since our next fabric collection isn’t a market release, I was happy to be able to still be doing some market prep…but without all of the stress that comes with doing a lot of market prep!
Joanna’s newest collection is called Coney Island, and it is absolutely beautiful!
It has the vintage Fig Tree feel and evokes images of a carefree summer by the shore! I enjoyed every minute of sewing with it!
There are some wonderful floral prints, terrific blenders, and a lot of low-volume prints that I can’t wait to add into some of my scrappy quilts!
And the yellows…I heart them! This quilt is called “Merry Go Round” and was a lot of fun to put together!
The other quilt I pieced is actually a new version of one of Joanna’s older patterns. I have always wanted to make this block, so I was delighted to get to piece this quilt! The low volume sash strips just set the blocks off perfectly!
Some of the prints are reminiscent of a few from the Avalon collection a few years ago…it’s always fun when designers revisit wonderful prints.
One of my favorites was the red inner border print…I just can’t get enough of that one!
Joanna’s new fabrics and patterns made their debut last week at International Quilt Market in Houston, Texas…along with lots of other fabulous new collections!
The “Coney Island Revisited” pattern will also have a mini version…which of course I had to make. Mine is just a bit more scrappy than Joanna’s because I used scraps…but I think I love it all the more because of that!
This is the first market I’ve missed in a little while…and while I’m a little sad that I stayed home, it just seemed like a good time to take a breather. I have a busy teaching schedule coming up this winter, and lots of new quilts to make when we release our next collection. So I watched from the sidelines this time around…but two quilts I pieced were there!
Thanks so much for stopping by

Love this pattern and the fabric. You did beautiful piecing of it! I recently picked up a pattern and couldn't figure out the lovely fabric used till I saw the Coney Island fabric debut. Now it is one of my favorite.

While I'm sure you missed being at Market, I'm glad to hear that you took a little time off for yourself, especially since you mention an upcoming busy teaching schedule. Your quilts are lovely, but your lesson of taking a little breather every now & again is priceless! Too often we tend to just keep making like the Energizer Bunny (without re-energizing ourselves)!
