A Quilting Life Block of the Month July 2025
July Block of the Month Details
I love a good churn dash block, and this month’s block contains a fun and scrappy churn dash center! I made the red and pink block for my large block center and a scrappy navy version for my table runner. The churn dash block is one that even a beginner can make with ease, and it adds a fun touch to the quilt. Simple half-square triangles and strip piecing make this a block you’ll want to use over and over.

I’m really enjoying making these blocks each month with such pretty fabric & I look forward to the first Monday every month. July was hard to wait another week since June 30th was on a Monday! Thank you Sherri! Beautiful quilt ~!!

I watched your video this morning and saw you added the border around the blocks, it’s very nice. However I am not going to be using it. I joined my first six months together, and I like the drama of the log cabin strips. My quilt is actually a revamp of a quilt I started for sister in law and brother as a wedding gift. A UFO! I only kept 1 fabric from the original quilt. I can’t wait to get it finished. I’ve been using your suggestion of 30 minutes a day to sew on projects. Very helpful!

Hi Sherry! I’m late to the party but going to start now and want to cut log cabin pieces ahead of time. I’m doing the medium size.
Requirements say a Jelly roll and a layer cake, plus more lights? I am confused about those quantities. I also saw in your 1st video that a fat eighth would be enough for the log cabins and the center block.
Which fabrics get cut from which bundles?
Sorry for my confusion! Please help and thanks so much for doing this!

Just canโt go wrong with a Churn Dash!
I was catching up with your past blog posts. One thing that jumped off the page on the June 27 post about productivity: you confess to being a messy quilter. I had assumed that your room looked just like it is in all your posts, sweet and tidy. I also belong to the messy quilters club.
