Every day I’ve been working on gifts…I just love it! I think it’s just part of the season for me to spend the first half of December making things for family and friends. These hexagons are part of a project I started over the weekend…I’ll be sharing it soon!
One handmade gift I give nearly every year is handmade ornaments. This year I’m trying a couple of new ideas. I made these ornament balls very quickly this weekend. I need to pick up some ribbon, and then I’ll be making a whole lot more of these. I really love this little pattern–it’s simple and fun, and I love the way these go together. These ornaments were designed by Gudrun Erla and are found in this year’s edition of Quilting Arts Gifts.
I also want to make some of these little advent houses for ornaments (I’ll leave the pockets off to make them stitch up faster). I have about 50 ornaments I need to make so will probably make 20 houses and about 30 ornament balls. Do you have any ornaments that you love to make? I’d love to hear any ideas you might have for fun ornaments!
A few years ago I made little nine patch pillows and added hangers and ribbons. I’ve also made mitten ornaments–using fusible web to attach fabric to felt.
My love of handmade ornaments comes from my grandmother (who always gave us an ornament each year, and who often made them herself). Above is a collage of a few that she’s given me over the years.
When I’m not finishing my hexagon project or making ornaments this week…I’ll be binding! I didn’t get any of my bindings finished, but did get two machine stitched on! Also…for a wonderful idea for handmade gift tags go here—love these! Have a wonderful day!

I have a quick little idea, if you want to wander over to my blog,(tutorial on my sidebar) they are really little bags that can be filled with lollies, chocolates or a little gift ie soap, candle, hairties, jacks etc. Another idea I've seen is yoyo's sewn together to resemble a Christmas tree!Have fun…

Whenever my Google Reader is insanely full because I've missed reading my favorite blogs for a few days, I always check your blog first before I hit the "mark all as read" button to clean it out! I'm never disappointed! Thanks for always sharing great ideas!

How wonderful to be able to work on some handmade Christmas gifts every day. I might be able to do that once my semester ends. I have always loved making ornaments too, so I'm looking forward to try a couple of these, especially those bulbs from this year's Quilting Arts magazine. It's so fun to decorate a tree with all handmade ornaments from friends and family!

I am making ornaments out of clear plastic ornament balls that you can find at a craft store. I fill them with silver tinsel/garland and then attach double sided adhesive (by Thermoweb)to bright colored fabric and cut circles of various sizes. Stick these onto the outside of ball and tie a ribbon on!
