I’ve been wanting to set my 12 Days of Christmas blocks together for quite a while now, and finally decided on quarter-square triangles for the setting posts. It seemed a perfect project to show you a little about Monique’s Fit to be Quarter Ruler. I decided to use four different fabrics for my quarter-square triangles and cut 5 of each to make 20 squares total. This is the amount of squares you’ll need to make 20-quarter square triangles (if you’re just going to use two fabrics for your quarter-square triangles, you’ll need 10 of each to make 20 squares.
I made half-square triangles (according to the ruler instructions). Then I again followed the ruler instructions to make my quarter-square triangles.
Here are the blocks ready to be trimmed.
Next, you use the ruler to trim up your blocks. Monique has a tutorial here for making and trimming your blocks. It’s really easy. And each and every block comes out perfect…every time. I’ve been using this ruler to make all the quarter-square triangles I’ve needed for my Farmer’s Wife quilt-along. Also, another thing I love about this ruler is the great range in block sizes it can be used for–from the smallest sizes up to 9 ½″ block. This really is one of those rulers that I use all the time!
So here they are–all 20 blocks–made quickly and accurately.
Now I just need to get borders added to this quilt!
And now for a little of the 4th of July part of the post! The 4th has always been one of my favorite holidays; I always try to sew as much as possible in the morning, then we usually have a family barbeque at home or with friends. We are really lucky to be able to see our community fireworks show perfectly from our driveway–so we watch them every year sitting on lawn and beach chairs. Since it’s almost always in the 100’s as we’re watching the fireworks in the evening, a nice refreshing punch is one of my “must-have’s” for the holiday. I’ll put the recipe for my favorite punch at the bottom of this post. Also, if you’d like to win one of Monique’s Fit to be Quarter rulers, just leave a comment on this post–I’ll choose a winner Friday night!
Be sure to stop by all of the other stops on the tour for more recipes, projects, and chances to win the Fit to be Quarter ruler!
