Six

Hello! Happy July first! Today is kind of a special day here at A Quilting Life; you see, today is the 6th anniversary of my very first blog post! I'm always filled with gratitude when I think about how many blessings have come into my life as a result of starting this blog. I began blogging for two reasons: first, I wanted to keep a record of my projects and second I wanted to give back to the on-line community, if possible, in thanks for those things I had received. I'm ever so happy I'm still blogging six years later--I always feel like I receive more than I'm able to give--thank you.

So...I've just returned from a six-day getaway that began with an amazing Quilt Retreat in Midway, Utah--Small Town Quilt Show in a Big Town Way. Natalia and Kathleen of Piece N Quilt did a terrific job with  organizing this incredible event. I highly recommend it--the location is amazing, and every detail was anticipated and taken care of. I taught my Hexagon Tote from my first book, A Quilting Life: Creating a Handmade Home  to 11 incredible ladies, and then I was able to do a trunk show for another wonderful group. Thanks so much to everyone I was able to meet!

Since we were just an hour away from family, we headed north after the retreat and spent a few relaxing days in a cooler climate. While there, I was able to visit Quilter's Haven in Bountiful, Utah. This was a super fun shop, and I found some things I needed for my stash.

The days and nights were so beautiful, and it was fun to get outside and take some walks. The mountains and hills in the Mountain Green area were just alive with color.

I even spotted this beautiful deer while on one of my walks. It was hard to leave, I must admit. I knew the temperatures at home were going to be a good 50 degrees warmer than the morning temps as we packed up our car.

Now, I didn't take my machine with me (truly, I missed it), but I was able to work on some hand sewing. I finished up the hand quilting on some Christmas ornaments I started earlier this year. Now they just need binding! (Pattern is by Bonnie of Cotton Way, and fabrics are Solstice by Kate Spain).

I filled my Sew Together Bag before I left, and it really was as useful as I hoped it would be. It was so nice to have everything I needed all in one place!

Another project I worked on was my English Paper Pieced hexagons. This is one of those "lifetime projects" that I work on a little bit here and there. On this trip I worked with some of my "Miss Kate" scraps.

I also was able to cut out my "Homestead" quilt...can't wait to make this one!

I need to get busy and finish up my Blogger Girl's Block of the Month Quilt so I can share...I'm still working on that...but the other finishes should have been posted today if  you'd like to visit the other blogs.

Happy 6th anniversary. You have done a great job documenting your projects and inspiring all of us.

I'll bet the getaway was delightful. It's always so nice to have a change of scenery (and temperatures) for a few days.

Happy Sixth-a-versary!! so glad you were able to get away to cooler temps for awhile!! I think I've been to that quilt store: loved it!! And I have a question for you about the Sew Together Bag. Is it tall enough in your opinion? It just seems a little short, but not seeing it in person, maybe it's taller than it looks. I'm looking for a good bag pattern, but I want to make sure that what I make will be tall enough to fit all my "treasures". :-) Welcome home!! Hugs, H
