Giveaway Day!

Today is the first day of the Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway!  To find out about all of the other amazing giveaways going on, go here! I'm giving away 2 of my my handmade 12 Days of Christmas potholders--perfect to keep for yourself or to use for a gift!  To be entered in the giveaway, just leave a comment telling me your favorite last-minute gift idea!  I'll ship to the US and Canada...entries will close Friday, December 17th, and I'll ship on Monday the 20th!

Because of the giveaway, I'm delaying this week's "Simple Gifts"post until Wednesday...but I do have some weekend sewing to share.  First I finished this Authentic bag for my very patient daughter. I made a similar bag over a year ago that I ended up giving to my younger daughter--well, my older daughter also ended up wanting one! It's just been one of those projects on the "back burner" until this weekend, but she now has her bag and is very happy with it!

I also made my first "Snap Happy" bag this weekend....such a fun little pattern.  I'll definitely be making more!  The pattern comes in three sizes perfect for carrying Ipods, cell phones, or sewing supplies.  Best of all...no zipper required!

A measuring tape is the secret to making this bag work.  I'm now the proud owner of a new measuring tape that will be cut into a lot of little pieces this week so I can make more bags!  Have a great day!

Good morning Sherri! What wonderful projects you finished this weekend. I love that Authentic line of fabric (I actually have a quilt started with it).

The potholders are great. I'd love to be entered to win. Hop over to my blog and see what I'm giving away too :)

If it's a last-minute gift from me, it's probably going to be a gift card. I do try to keep some items on hand for those occasions, but if my stash is empty, the quickest thing for me is to grab a gift card.

Thanks for the give-away!

Well, this is what I did last year for a last minute gift when I couldn't think of anything to add to my sister's main gift: I took an old blue Mason jar that I'd purchased at a yard sale and stuffed it with 20 one dollar bills (use any amount) and chocolate candy (Hershey kisses or Dove pieces work great). I cut a piece of fabric to cover the top and tied it on with twine and a cute To/From card. Of course the recipient has no clue how much money is in the jar, but it really is funny watching them try and count it! The gift was a big hit!

KaHolly said...

I was gifted with a Snap Happy bag awhile bag and thought it was a very clever idea. Look forward to making some one day. Yours is adorable.

Linda said...

Thanks Sheri! Those are darling! Best last minute deal EVER are electronic gift cards. You buy them online and email you a gift card you can print out or just use the code online. Its great for last minute gifts and saves the time of visiting the store or waiting for it to arrive by mail. Merry Christmas!

Then...if I am not mistaken there is a pattern at Stash Manicure for something VERY similiar. Great last minute idea! Happy Holidays!!

Those pot holders are lovely and so is that handbag! Lovely fabrics.

My favorite last minute Christmas thing to do is buy the tiny candy canes and add them to the Christmas presents as well as put them on the tree. I can't tell you how many family members love reaching for one of those from the tree!

Christmas blessings,
Sue

Themed gift baskets tend to be easy to gather at the last minute. A gift I like to give newlyweds or young couples is a movie night basket. I get a large, colorful plastic bowl and put a few packs of microwave popcorn, several movie-size boxes of candy, a 2-liter bottle of soda and a gift certificate to the local movie rental store. I wrap the whole thing in clear or colored wrap.

Love the look of the potholders! Glad to see another "Authentic" line fan, too. I'm always drawn to fabric with writing on it!

Tiffany said...

Cookies or some kind of treat are my "go-to" last minute gifts. If I REALLY like the person, they might be getting a mug and mug rug to go along with that this year. Generally last minute gifts are not for close friends or family, so I think this is a nice, inexpensive, and easy to whip-up gift.

Cindy said...

Love those potholders! My last minute gift is probably some kind of baked goods. Can't go wrong with sweets.

paulette said...

Thanks so much for having such a lovely give away!! My last minute gift idea is Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge! So good, easy to make and delicious!! Who doesn't like fudge?

Lovely potholders! For last-minute gifts that don't have to be mailed I like to bake bread or make cookies. For stuff to be mailed (since most of our family is across the country), I'm still trying to figure that out. Gift cards are easy but feel like such a cop-out...

Linda said...

Hi Sherri! Cute coasters! Thanks for the chance to win.

A good, last-minute Christmas idea is simply to cook or bake something. Everyone likes to eat, especially when the food is prepared by someone else. It's the perfect gift of one's time and abilities.

I've made Snap Happy bags too! http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2010/04/friday-flaunt-sixth-ten-in-10-finished.html

Love the little snap bags. You used some really cute fabric in yours.
Merry Christmas :-)

Mary said...

I love your little bags! For last minute gifts, it's usually a paper Christmas plate of homemade cookies with red cellophane (when I find it, I stock up) over it and tied with a big bow. Or, depending on the recipient, a bottle of wine and a pair of wine glasses.

Shannon said...

For a last minute gift, you can never go wrong with a bottle of wine (unless the person doesn't drink, I guess...not a problem with my crowd, lol!)... for handmade, a simple tote bag filled with some treat for the recipient!

Laura said...

Food baskets are my go to last minute gift. But I may be more prepared than most. I usually include some homemade jam and a cello bag of nuts. burnt sugar nuts if I have them laying around, some nice crackers and some chocolate. People seem to really like them. Or else they just act like it for my sake!

Belle + Bee said...

I make dark chocolate bark by melting bittersweet bakers chocolate in the microwave and spreading it on a parchment paper covered tray. Then I sprinkle it with pistachios and dried cherries and stick it in the fridge for a few minutes. Break it apart and wrap it in a pretty jar or even a clear plastic bag tied with a pretty ribbon...delish!!!

Shamefully, my last minute gifts are typically IOUs or whatever I can find at a drugstore!!!

I want to tell you that if I win, I'll be paying this one forward to a couple of friends of mine. I was at their house a couple of weeks ago and their potholders are pitiful little things, lol. They are renovating their home from the ground up practically because they found a BUNCH of termite damage the inspectors missed :( So I guess potholders aren't all that high on their priority list.

My last minute gifts usually consists of embroidered dish towels.
I saw a snap happy bag today at my Babylock Club. We're supposed to have a class on this next month. That's the neatest thing I've seen in a long time.

When I can jam in the summer, my default tags are in red and green. If I'm rushed for gifts, I grab a jar of homemade jam and zip out the door!

Thanks for the great giveaway! I can't get enough of Kate Spain this Christmas :-)

Last minute gifts are usually chocolate, candles or wine. If you had all three what a relaxing pleasant evening you could have.

Last minute gifts - money in a card - new crisp cash is good. We are in a rural area so unless can drive into town and go to the dollar store when it is open, last minute is out.

My favorite last-minute gifts are cedar sachets. I always keep a stash of cedar shavings (purchased from an artisan at my local farmer's market). And I just love 12 Days of Christmas! Kate

I have a huge reusable shopping bag that takes me roughly 2 1/2 hrs to make. It's currently my favorite last minute gift idea. I'm ashamed to admit lots of people will be getting those this Xmas.

Last minute gift ideas- pillowcases. We make lots of them and everyone loves them. I always have some kind of novelty fabric to use but try and make it to suit the person receiving it. I love the snap bags and want to make some more. Made one in a demo and loved it. Thanks for the chance to win in your giveaway.
