This has been a weekend of finishing…and hopefully I’ll finish up a few more things today! First I finished up my first project using Odds & Ends…it’s a runner that is already in my living room brightening up a table top! Since yardage isn’t available yet, I used some jelly roll strips to make a scrappy binding. I normally straight- line quilt my tumbler projects, but just this once I wanted to see how they would look with an all-over design…it seems I love tumblers no matter how they are quilted!
And I decided I really need to get going on my paper-pieced hexagons…I’ve been seeing so many amazing hexie projects all over blogland. I had been storing them in a cute jar, but it was just so hard to know what I had and what colors I needed to make more of. I’m using the 1″ hexagons, and as you can see from the photo above I definitely need more yellows and reds…but I have a good start on my green and blue stash! I’m so happy I took a few minutes to organize them this way. The bonus was that I found this container in my sewing room and didn’t have to go out and purchase anything!
And I finished up this Lori Smith pattern made with Bonnie & Camille’s Simple Abundance line. I started this project a couple of years ago and then somehow it got lost in a stack of “need to finish” projects. I hand quilted just ⅛″ away from the inner applique’ section and then had an all-over pattern done on the rest of the quilt (I just couldn’t see hand-quilting through all the seams with so many quarter-square triangle blocks)! I always thought this quilt would have a red binding, but when it came time to audition fabrics the blue just seemed to be what it needed. So this is finished, and I’ll be hanging it up today!
I took all of these pictures with my phone…I am having so much fun with Instagram…there are so many times when it’s easier to take a picture with the phone than to go find the camera…and I think it’s definitely helping me document more of the “process” of my quilting. So I’ll definitely be using Instagram a lot. If you want to follow along, my Instagram username is sherrimcconnell!
Thanks so much for stopping by….have a happy Monday!

Love your Simple Abundance – the sampler I made out of it is one of my favorites. What will those hexies become?

Lots of fun happenings today, Sherri.
I don't do Instagram so I'm sad that I'm missing out. 🙁

You know I always love what you make. But those hexies are great and so glad you didn't have to buy anything to store them in. Do you think you could take just one out and take a photo and show me what you've done to them please?

Okay, that little container of hexies makes my mouth water!!!

Hexies look so cute! I organize mine in an old school card catalog that I picked up when the University I work at got rid of them. I love having them organized by color.

I like the little pot of flowers quilt that you made. Lori Smith has some wonderful designs. I have a stack of her patterns to make "someday".
