Yesterday was one of those days where I just wanted to finish something. I have plenty of works in progress to choose from, but this one from 2010 has been calling my name.
The pattern is “Sweet Honey Braids” by Joanna Figueroa from one of her “Fresh Vintage” booklets. I started it not too long after the pattern came out, but then put it away for a few years (why?)!
Last year I worked on it at a quilt retreat but then realized I hadn’t brought enough light strips to finish. I ended up with mostly dark combinations that didn’t work with the quilt. Back into a box it went, and this time it sat for a year.
So yesterday I added some recent Fig Tree strips, and even added in a couple of pieces from Aloha Girl!
I had already finished the first three strip sections last year, so I just needed to finish the fourth “braid” and start putting everything together.
I was determined to use fabrics I had on hand to finish this quilt, too. The cream polka dot sashing is some Vintage Modern by Bonnie & Camille I’ve been saving for awhile. The body of my quilt only has one little strip of true aqua, but nevertheless I decided a little pop of aqua from Avalon would make the perfect inner border.
I just need to add the outer border (my favorite floral from Somerset) and then I can get this off to be quilted!
It feels great to finish up something in progress…and it empties a box to start something new!
The Simply Small parade will be Monday the 16th…thanks so much for stopping by!

I really like this pattern! I might use it to get through my huge pile of scraps. Thanks for sharing:)

This quilt os like a FigTree time machine a lot of gorgous collections (not that there's something like a 'not-gorgous' Fig Tree collection mind you) in one quilt!

Looking beautiful. I love how the braids always look more complex than they really are to make.

I love all Fig Tree lines, this quilt looks great. Her little Fresh Vintage Books were so cute. Loved them, love this.
Wish she would re-introduce the line Butterscotch and Roses as the blues in it were gorgeous.
Should WIP stand for Whip It Present (present as in past, present, future)?

Beautiful! Are you keeping it for yourself? I remember this pattern and really thought hard about doing it, since I had collected several of Fig Trees honey buns at the time. Never got off the ground, but I love seeing yours! I really, really love that polka dot in Vintage Modern. If I could buy a bolt of it now, I would!

Love this quilt you made. I am unable to find the pattern for it. Noticed it was from the fresh vintage booklet collection issue 15. Do you know how I can get a hold of it? Would love to have this pattern. Thank you.
