First I must say thank you to the folks over at We All Sew–I feel very honored to be on this week’s list of sewing blogs. They have some great on-line resources over at their site…very inspiring!
I’ve had some fat quarters of Sandi Henderson’s Meadowsweet since before Christmas–and finally decided on a project. I knew I wanted to use some white along with these fabrics (finally chose Moda Bella bleached white), and also knew I wanted to make something fresh and fun.
I decided on “Modern Day Diamonds” which is found in the book Livin’ Large by Heather Mulder Peterson.
This quilt was so much fun to make…and easy too…it took no effort to have every point and corner line up perfectly.
I really love the browns in this line…kind of wish I’d used a couple more brown blocks and also used a solid brown for the posts where the diamonds “connect” (Moda U Brown and Kona Coffee match perfectly). I’ll definitely be using the large floral with brown background for backing along with a solid brown binding. It’s pretty cloudy here today, so the pictures don’t really show the true colors of the fabrics…but I had to share!
I’ve just caught up on my FatQuarterShop Designer Mystery Block of the Month too…block 8 on the left is by Barbara Jones of Quilt Soup, and block 9 on the right is by Bonnie of Cotton Way.

I have to tell you this. Along time ago when I was in Young Women's, you taught a lesson on gaining knowledge from the best books. You talked about reading Charlotte Bronte's, Jane Eyre. Well, it took a few years after that lesson but I finally read it right after I was married, I loved it and it inspired me to read more. It also taught me about being selfless. This past Christmas I bought it as a Christmas gift for Chase’s oldest sister and she devoured it in just two days. We talked about how we loved Jane’s attitude and how we need to be like her. So, I just wanted to say thank you for that lesson and encouraging me to always read the best books! I love to read.
Oh, and I hear we are going to be related…..sort of. Chelsie’s soon to be sister-in-law is my husband Chase’s sister Kacee, and she is the best! She loves Chelsie and is really excited to have a new sister.

Love the Modern Diamonds quilt you are making by Heather Mulder Peterson. I met her at a local quilt shop and she is so sweet. I've never met Nanette, but she is also sweet and I'm pretty sure you are making her bag pattern. 🙂 I made one last fall but I like your idea to make it more patchwork. I might have to give that a try. 🙂

Hi Sherri, Love your Modern Day Diamonds quilt. I was so happy to be the lucky winner of that book "Living Large" by Heather Mulder on her blog. Can't wait to make a couple of the quilts in her book. I like the "Square Dance" pattern as well, it's great for those large pattern florals. Your blocks are lovely also, I love those moda fabrics with the reds.

I didn't realize it was you! When my husband gave me the note with your blog on it, I did check it out, and was humbled by your praise!
I am so sad to say that we have temporarily closed the shoppe becuz of two things….the economy and my bad back. We have been traveling all over the country for the last 6 years vending at 30-36 shows a year, and now I am paying for it. I'm still trying to figure out the lesson God has for me in this one.
We are still doing the shows and have the internet. Who knows….maybe some day we will be able to open again. We own the building and are living in it now.
I so wish I could have met you!!
