Irons…quilters seem to constantly be searching for the perfect iron. I’ve definitely had my share of negative iron experiences over the past few years. For a while it seemed that no matter how much I spent on an iron it would invariably break within a year or so–always after the warranty had expired.
My previous iron (actually it still works and is now officially the “back-up” iron) was a Rowenta. Although it didn’t leak too much…the steam has been hit or miss for over a year. I also have received some pretty bad burns from irons over the past couple of years…mostly due to just hitting the sole plate of the iron with my arm when I’m in a hurry. So when I found out about the Oliso Pro that stays in a horizontal position I was sure it would solve my problems.
It’s only been a week since she arrived, but so far, so good. The steam is wonderful. The up/down mechanism that I’ve heard some people complain about works wonderfully. I feel like my ironing is going more quickly and that my sewing this week has benefited from the new iron. I am emptying the water from the reservoir every night per the instructions. So I’m hopeful…
I’ll come back with an update on this in a month or so!
In other news…I’m going to start carrying some of my favorite notions and fabrics in my Etsy shop. Right now I just have a couple of my favorite fabrics available by the yard…My favorite Aloha Girl print…
And my favorite Sweetwater Feed Company print. I’ll be adding more of my favorite items in the coming weeks and months.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

I have the Oliso in the picture for about five years and love it. The first year, it was knocked on a tile floor and stopped working but Oliso replaced it. I'm a sewer for clothes — what I like about the iron is the long cord, and the long shutoff times. BTW, it's been knocked off the ironing board plenty of times and is going strong. I love it.

I have a Tefal for several years now and so far it's good and I would buy it again.

I've had the same iron since last summer. So far I'm very happy with it.

I am always a little bit jealous on the up and down function of the Oliso 😉 But it's not available in Germany.
My Iron is a Philips PerfectCare and the great gain is "only one temperature for ALL Kind of fabrics"! It's working really well!

I have had the OlisoPro for about six months. It's a stay at home iron, not a travel one. I'm too afraid that the feet that prop it up will get damaged if I transport it to a retreat or bee sew-in. I use it exclusively for quilting, and I find myself at retreats not wanting to prop the iron on its base because it is USEFUL to not have to do this! Also, you can leave the OlisoPro propped up on TOP of your fabric that you're pressing. It's not contacting the fabric, so you won't scorch it. It doesn't seem like something you'd do, but believe me, once you get a chance, it comes in handy a lot!

oh, gosh, how I'd love this iron. I actually have an iron that I am fairly happy with – it steams well and it's lasted me at least 5 years now (and I leave the tap water in it all the time). It doesn't spit, but it does shut off when I'm using it sometimes. And, the holes in the sole plate catch on the fabric sometimes and create awful creases. That is the part I dislike about it. But, for a cheapo GE, it's been a good iron. I would LOVE the pop-up feature though of the OlisoPro…. I saw one on MassDrop not long ago and almost got in on the drop since it was a good price – but it was PANK. I am not a pink fan.

PS: If they came out with an aqua version, I would buy it in a heartbeat! LOL! Even though my current one is working just fine, hehe :0)

I have one of these irons, too. It's not from Oliso but from Unold. It looks pretty much the same although it's gray and not yellow (there's a blue Unold, too, but I don't know the difference). I've got my Unold for about three months and I love it! It's great for patchwork.

I want one, but can't justify the cost to my husband.

Wow, how nice that you can lay it flat. I also get burned on my forearm when I am in a hurry, lol
I hate when that happens!!!
I have a cheap Rowenta that is working. I do not use steam, just distilled water in a spray bottle, or spring water.
I would love an iron like this… Maybe someday… But I would REALLY like a Sweet16 machine.

Hi sherri!
I purchased the oliso pro from massdrop, and I have just been LOVING it. 6 months and counting… I love that aloha girl fabric, so excited that you're carrying it. XX!

I have the same iron and love it. This however is my second iron. I sew upstairs and we have softened water upstairs. Although it says to use tap water, you should not use water that has gone through the water softener as it contains too much salt. I ended up rusting the inside of the iron, and of the sole plate due to the salt. Now for my replacement iron, I fill up water bottles from the kitchen (not run through softener) and have had no issues.
Enjoy!

I've had the same problems with my irons and finally invested in this one. After 6 months of using it I can say that it is still working great.

I've had that iron for a few years now — I loved it for the first two, but then it started leaking. Now I bounce back and forth between it and my backup Rowenta. Irons just never seem to last for years and years and years like they used to! And funny — I just put that same feed company print in my little shop — I guess we all love the same fabrics LOL!!!

Mine only last about a year as well!! A few irons ago I bought an expensive one ($120) and it only lasted a little over a year!! Never again!! Ill just keep spending my $20 a year and figure its one of those expenses (like replacing an ironing board cover!)

I bought the Oliso iron when it furst came out. I had never paid soooo much for an iron EVER. It lasted one year, then stopped working. Grrrr!! Now i have an orange reliant that works well- great steam, but it's so powerful that it pops my circuit breaker all the time…sigh…

I have tried these irons and was not disappointed, but I do not have one. Like you I have never had a good iron last for more than a year! It's very frustrating. They have gotten to be very expensive-you would think they wouldn't leak just because it was knocked over once. I like the weight of the Rowenta irons, but sadly they aren't worth the money.

I hope that the Oliso works for you. I had the previous model (blue) and the up/down mechanism broke after a year. I love the iron so much I bought the next model up (yellow one you have) I have had it two years now and after a year he mechanism began malfunctioning. I had to turn it off as it would suddenly activate to the up position while I was actively ironing. It now stands up but I have not wanted to buy another one and while it still works like a conventional iron I may as well still use it. Since these are very expensive it is disappointing that they stopped working after only a year. I do not plan on buying a third.
