Hello and happy Tuesday! I’ve been mentioning my studio spring cleaning over the past week or so, and I’m happy to say I’m caught up with the major organizing tasks. There is nothing like walking into a clean studio…it just gives me a happy feeling! I even cleaned the window and dusted the shutters over the weekend which really needed to be done!
My sewing room is small (about 9′ x 10′); however, the natural light makes it
seem a little bigger I think! I’ve been able to pick up some great pieces over the years which help me keep things organized. My cutting table does extra duty with two file drawers , a large open shelf, five other drawers, and two cupboards. I’m really able to store a lot of my tools and supplies right where I use them the most, and I really appreciate those features (in some of the pictures you can see different angles of the cutting table with these drawers, shelves).
I love being able to have a large cutting area, and I will generally move the rotating cutting mat when I’m not using it to give me even more open space.
My IKEA Raskog cart is in the corner…it stows some project bags and works in progress; I actually do need to clean and organize this soon, too.
I also love my IKEA Brusali cabinet. I have fabric in bins stored inside the cupboard. I used to have an open-shelf bookshelf here which always looked cluttered and collected a lot of dust. I like having the fabrics stored inside the cabinet away from light and dust.
My sewing machine is a Janome Memory Craft 6600P…and I love it. I especially love the Janome sewing table it sits on. I have frequently used supplies and tools on a table right next to it, too.
Behind the door I have a built in shelf with cabinet storage below. As you can see, the lower shelf needs a little organizing soon! The door on the right goes out into the hallway, and the door on the left is for the closet.
My closet is full, but fairly organized. The shelving unit on the left is from The Container Store. I really love it because it allows the fabrics stored to breathe…someday I’d like to replace the plastic drawer units with more Container Store shelving.
I actually do have some more fabric storage areas not pictured…I have a spare dresser with a variety of fabric storage as well as a bookshelf in the guest room with yardage from our fabric collections.
You can see the last update I posted on my sewing room here…while many things are the same, you can see the changes I’ve made and also see a few more close ups of my cutting table.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Even though 9 x 10 is smallish, you are lucky to have a BIG closet like that You have things set up so nicely! Thanks for sharing and for giving us ideas on how to better organize our own spaces. All of that makes sense to me.

Thank you for showing us your sewing room. So much inspiration.
What is the long block of wood with holes where you put your scissors and rotary cutter? The idea of using that is brilliant.

What a bright, cheerful room! Do you use a design wall? I didn't see one.

It looks great Sherri! And I'm glad you showed it with some of the fabric needing a bit of straightening. It makes me happy to know that someone else isn't totally spic and span!! (don't worry, your room is much tidier than mine, but I like "real life" shots!!) Where did your cutting table come from? It looks so nice with all the storage capability. Thanks! Hugs, H

Sherri, I love all your little, mini quilts on the wall. How do you hang them?

Loved seeing your sewing room on your blog post. Someday I need to update my sewing table and also get a sewing machine with a wider throat area. I really struggle with this when it comes to quilting my quilts. Love the changes you made from your previous post. Your mini quilts are awesome and so inspiring. Love your little sewing room!
