Happy September 2nd…I meant to get this post written yesterday; however, we returned home pretty late in the evening from a five-day trip, and I was just too tired! But I’m happy to be home, and of course I have a list a mile long of projects for fall!
I was able to take my machine with
me on our little trip to northern Utah, and my first item on the list
was to put together my “Jumping Jacks” blocks (pattern by Fig Tree &
Company).
I wasn’t sure about what fabrics I was going to use for the posts, so I took along a couple of different Moda Candy packs from different Fig Tree collections along with some other 2 ½″ x 2 ½″ squares from my scrap bin.
Now that I have the quilt center together I just need to decide on an
outer border and get this quilted. I’m thinking about using the large
floral on cream from Somerset, so I’ll have to wait a little bit for that to be available in shops.
I also want to mention some of our yummy “eats” from this trip. It seems the older I get vacations are more and more about the food. If you’re ever up in northern Utah I highly recommend Taggart’s Grill in Morgan, Luis’s Mexican Cuisine in Eden, and the Huntsville BBQ Company in…Huntsville. My husband is super picky about food (he’s a very good cook), and he gave 5 stars to each one of these restaurants!
On my way up north I also picked up a couple of mini quilts I made last summer. I’d sent them to Abby, and it was so fun to get to see her in person to pick up these and another quilt I can’t share just yet. I can’t wait to get the binding on these…I think that someday every room in my house might just have a mini quilt on the wall! (No pattern for the quilt on the left…it’s pieced with mini die-cut tumblers I bought at Primitive Gatherings Quilt Shop last summer. The quilt on the right is “Tidbit”–a Little Bites pattern by Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company and pieced with Floral Gatherings fabric).
Finally…I’d like to share an
update on the Schnibbles quilt-alongs which are starting up again October first!
We’ve decided to use a few different patterns this year: Schnibbles and
Little Bites by Carrie of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company will be the standard patterns, as usual, and Sinta
and I are also going to add in some of our own designs. It will be a
lot of fun…we hope our regulars and anyone new who is interested will
join in this year! The first pattern we’ll be making is pictured above. It’s called “Whit,” and there are actually three different versions included in the pattern. This pattern is made with Moda mini charms, or Moda Candy (2 ½″ squares). Make any of the three versions of “Whit” for the parade which will be held October first.
We are also announcing that “Harvey” (a Schnibbles pattern pictured above lower left…made with charm packs or a cut up Layer Cake…) will be our quilt pattern for the November first parade; we’re announcing this one now since it’s a larger quilt.
Go here for a summary page of all of the information for the Schnibbles parades.
Patterns are available in Carrie’s shop or at Fat Quarter Shop and are available in PDF and paper versions.
Thanks so much for stopping by. The Simply Small post will also be up later this week…I’ll get to my emails ASAP, and I have a few more weekend sewing projects to share soon as well.

Sherri, glad your trip was so successful. My trips are always about the food, unfortunately. Your upcoming Scnilbbles sounds fun. Look forward to it.
