Happy Thursday! Tuesday morning I stopped by the post office after the holiday weekend and was thrilled to find my scrappy log cabin quilt had arrived home. By Tuesday evening I was binding, and on Wednesday I took the final pictures. There might be a little photo overload in this post because I am madly in love with this quilt!
My friend Abby did the straight line quilting on this quilt which worked perfectly for such a busy quilt…
Making a scrappy quilt is always fun, but making a scrappy quilt with friends has to be the best. This is one of those quilts I’ll always treasure! And boy have I found some new fabrics I wish I had in my stash…at least I have them in a quilt where I can see them all the time!
This quilt is already in our family room as the new “go to” quilt…now if it would just hurry up and get a little cooler!
I used the navy bias stripe from the April Showers collection by Bonnie and Camille for binding. At first I was worried it would be too busy, but it blended right in!
And I have to mention the back…it might be my favorite quilt back ever. Thanks to a friend I used a brushed cotton plaid…why haven’t I used a fabric like this for a quilt back before?
So many favorites here…and, there is a part of this story I haven’t mentioned in my earlier posts about this quilt. The night before I was shipping it off to be quilted I decided I wanted it a little bigger…so I made four more blocks, cut them into quarters, mixed them all up…and added another row to my quilt making it a perfect square. The tricky part was that since this was a swap quilt I didn’t want it to look like I had added a row of blocks. So I didn’t repeat a single fabric in any of the four blocks…and it worked. I can’t tell where I added them in!
This outside photo makes it look rectangular, but this really is a square quilt!
And I just thought the binding looked so pretty outside against the green grass…
I did warn you there was going to be a little photo overload! You can see some of the earlier progress on this quilt here and here. I’m pretty sure I’ll be making more scrap quilts using this idea…Christmas, Halloween…and just plain scrappy!
Oh, and Michele and I want to offer congrats to Mary of Needled Mom, Sandy of Loves to Quilt, and Brenda who are the quarterly winners for our Minis and More parades…please send me your mailing addresses for some goodies–and thanks so much to everyone who participated!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
