Happy Monday! I can’t believe it’s almost the middle of July…summer is flying by, and I still have so many projects to catch up on, to finish…and of course, to start! I took a little time this weekend to try and get a little caught up on my red and green quilt. This is a mystery block of the month I’ve been doing with Fig Tree and Company. The block of the month program began right as I began my quilt market preparations, and so I knew I was going to have to play catch up somewhere down the road!
Normally I’m pretty good about keeping up with projects, so it’s going to be great to get caught up!
The first block I made this weekend went together pretty quickly. The 12 flying geese took a little time, but the rest of the block was pieced with simple squares and rectangles. The second block was another story with many parts and pieces to keep organized.
I love Alphabitties for keeping my pieces organized. Usually I just set the alphabet markers on top of my pieces, but I’ve also used wonder clips to secure them if I’m traveling with my block.
The second block was so worth the extra time. I really love this block. I don’t think I’ve made anything quite like this one before.
My Saturday work…love these blocks!
And all four of the blocks together. I have four more to make and I’ll be caught
up!
Here are some tips for keeping organized with block of the month projects:
- Try to cut out each block as soon as you receive it. Sometimes it’s easier to start sewing if you have a project already cut out and ready to go.
- Keep block of the month projects organized by keeping everything together in one container.
- Save all of your extra fabrics. When blocks use fabrics previously used in earlier months, try cutting your new pieces from the leftovers of the previous blocks. I used mostly left-overs of the ivory solid from the month one blocks to cut my month two blocks.
- Don’t worry if you get behind…set aside one day a week to try to get caught up. Sometimes it helps me to just start with the current month’s blocks and worry about going back to catch up later.
Do you have any tips or ideas for keeping up with block of the month projects?
Thanks so much for stopping by!
PS…Craftsy is having a “Christmas in July” sale now through Friday, July 17th at 11:59 p.m.

Great tips! And your blocks look fabulous.
I'm still working on my first BOM project. I tend to process the blocks in spurts. I'm on 8 of 12. Yes, definitely keep the extra fabric around-its come in handy! I've also got all of my finished blocks together in order with the finishing kit, which I intent to take to a quilt retreat this fall to finish.

It's looking great! I'm horrible at keeping up w/ BOM's, so the only thing I do is to start in at the current block (which I'm doing with a Primitive Gatherings Block of the Week: it moves FAST!!), but one thing I learned this weekend is to go back to the 1st weeks pattern and read all the instructions carefully! There are directions included that apply to all of the blocks! 🙂 I'll get a pic. posted up on my blog and share it w/ you: it's a stunning pattern!! Have a wonderful week!! Wish I could see you this year, but at this point it looks like we won't be out there till next January. Hugs, H

Fig Tree & Co is a wonderful company. Her fabrics are so rich and lovely. I adore all the quilts you've made using her gorgeous fabrics. Unfortunately, I missed out on this BOM. I was hoping to follow along by watching what the bloggers had completed and posted to their blogs. There was no way for me to try to do this on my own. Joanna has encouraged me to keep my eye out for the next one. I will have to stay alert to get in on the next one. I know her BOMs sell out super quick. I will have to enjoy the results through you. Beautiful work. I hope you will continue to share the progress and I hope the completed quilt. **sigh**
