If you are looking for the Schnibbles parade it will post later this afternoon…lots of fun “Whit” quilts will be lined up to share!
I’m excited to be able to share my lap quilt made with just one Somerset Jolly Bar–I’m grateful that Fat Quarter Shop contacted me to see if I was interested in sewing a quilt with this new pre-cut because I had a lot of fun thinking of different ways to use this fabric. Somerset is one of my favorite Fig Tree lines, and I wanted to use every piece I could. I also wanted a simple project I could make in a day…perfect for using up all of the fabric and yet simple enough to make in a hurry for a last-minute gift.
The Jolly Bar is a new Moda pre-cut just announced by Kimberly at The Fat Quarter Shop. It’s a package of 42 rectangles which each measure 5″ x 10″–half the size of a layer cake. It’s a great size for projects, and as I found out in making my project this is another great time-saving fabric package. You can read even more about the Jolly Bar on this Fat Quarter Shop Jolly Jabber post where you can even watch a You Tube video with all of the details!
I first sewed the Jolly Bar rectangles into pairs, then sewed pairs together and cut in half to make fast and easy four-patch blocks. There was no fabric waste, and I used forty of the forty-two Jolly Bar pieces to make twenty blocks for my quilt. I have the perfect chair for this quilt in my room, and as I got close to finishing up the top I decided to use Moda Snuggles for the backing; this was a good decision!
It’s so soft! I love how the quilting shows on the back, too. You can see that I still need to finish my binding. Hopefully that will get done tonight.
