It’s afternoon, and I finally have enough chores done to head off to the sewing room! We received ½″ of rain last night for which I’m very grateful; it’s actually still very overcast with more chances for rain, so it’s the perfect day to sew! I haven’t had my camera out in a couple of days, but I do have a couple of Instagram pictures of what I’ve been working on (I’m sherrimcconnell on Instagram). I finished a much-needed new ironing board cover on Thursday night using two different red prints from Happy Go Lucky. I roughly used Randi’s great tutorial here (although I had different sized pieces of fabric to work with). I also used 1 ¾ yards of elastic instead of threading cording through the casing. Ironing is definitely going to be a lot more fun with fresh fabric to look at!
All I managed to accomplish yesterday sewing-related was to finish up (80) 2 ½″ half-square triangles. These were all “cast-offs” from a quilt I finished up earlier this week. It always feels so good to save pieces that could have ended up in the garbage…it’s even better when I get them sewn into useable pieces so quickly! The quilt will be a new pattern very soon–next week, I hope, and it’s my favorite so far! As soon as the pattern cover is finished I’ll be sharing.
Okay…well I’m heading off to the sewing room…yay! Hope you get to sew today, too!

I'm looking forward to seeing your new pattern. Love your ironing board cover. I got some cutting done today, ready to sew my Lincoln quilt.

I ordered some of the Washday fabric by Andover to cover my Costco sized board. Can't wait! Looking good on the pieces…

Love the half square triangles! I didn't do any sewing myself this week but I worked with a newbie and she was a great student! Completed a lap throw in 2 days! And she's hooked!

I got to sew, finished the top of a quilt, sewed up some rows on my Levi quilt, and would of loved your 1/2 inch of rain. Cache Valley has been drier than moapa valley. You guys have had more rain than we have this summer. I don't remember that much rain when I lived down there.

A new ironing board cover would be great as mine is looking "OLD" and yucky! Thanks Sherri

Cute ironing board cover. I find old fabric that is just too ugly to use in a quilt to make my ironing board covers. I also cheat and use a staple gun.

Wonderful idea to use elastic instead of cording. I'll have to try this. Thanks!
