Today is the first day of the Sew, Mama, Sew giveaway! To find out about all of the other amazing giveaways going on, go here! I’m giving away 2 of my my handmade 12 Days of Christmas potholders–perfect to keep for yourself or to use for a gift! To be entered in the giveaway, just leave a comment telling me your favorite last-minute gift idea! I’ll ship to the US and Canada…entries will close Friday, December 17th, and I’ll ship on Monday the 20th!
Because of the giveaway, I’m delaying this week’s “Simple Gifts”post until Wednesday…but I do have some weekend sewing to share. First I finished this Authentic bag for my very patient daughter. I made a similar bag over a year ago that I ended up giving to my younger daughter–well, my older daughter also ended up wanting one! It’s just been one of those projects on the “back burner” until this weekend, but she now has her bag and is very happy with it!
I also made my first “Snap Happy” bag this weekend….such a fun little pattern. I’ll definitely be making more! The pattern comes in three sizes perfect for carrying Ipods, cell phones, or sewing supplies. Best of all…no zipper required!
A measuring tape is the secret to making this bag work. I’m now the proud owner of a new measuring tape that will be cut into a lot of little pieces this week so I can make more bags! Have a great day!
Last minute gifts are hard! Lol. I usually run to the store and get some Bath and Body works lotion. 🙂

whipping up some tea towels with Christmas Appliques
Good morning Sherri! What wonderful projects you finished this weekend. I love that Authentic line of fabric (I actually have a quilt started with it).
The potholders are great. I'd love to be entered to win. Hop over to my blog and see what I'm giving away too 🙂
If it's a last-minute gift from me, it's probably going to be a gift card. I do try to keep some items on hand for those occasions, but if my stash is empty, the quickest thing for me is to grab a gift card.
Thanks for the give-away!
The Pink Fawn says
Very sweet bags & such a useful gift!

Teresa Felgueiras says
Lovely bags. Beautiful potholders. Thank you for your giveaway.
cute pot holders, love the pinwheels.
Well, this is what I did last year for a last minute gift when I couldn't think of anything to add to my sister's main gift: I took an old blue Mason jar that I'd purchased at a yard sale and stuffed it with 20 one dollar bills (use any amount) and chocolate candy (Hershey kisses or Dove pieces work great). I cut a piece of fabric to cover the top and tied it on with twine and a cute To/From card. Of course the recipient has no clue how much money is in the jar, but it really is funny watching them try and count it! The gift was a big hit!
I was gifted with a Snap Happy bag awhile bag and thought it was a very clever idea. Look forward to making some one day. Yours is adorable.
Thanks Sheri! Those are darling! Best last minute deal EVER are electronic gift cards. You buy them online and email you a gift card you can print out or just use the code online. Its great for last minute gifts and saves the time of visiting the store or waiting for it to arrive by mail. Merry Christmas!

I've made several of the Snap Happy bags and love it. I get the measuring tapes at the dollar store. Then somebody told me about boxing the bottom….I love that idea! Then…if I am not mistaken there is a pattern at Stash Manicure for something VERY similiar. Great last minute idea! Happy Holidays!!
Those pot holders are lovely and so is that handbag! Lovely fabrics.
My favorite last minute Christmas thing to do is buy the tiny candy canes and add them to the Christmas presents as well as put them on the tree. I can't tell you how many family members love reaching for one of those from the tree!
A truly last minute gift would be gift cards. But if you have a little more time, a few ornaments is my second choice.
Cute potholders! Thanks for the chance.
Merry Made Quilts says
What a great idea! I think my last min. gift would be a dry mix (like cookies or bread)in a little handmade bag.
I always try to have a small, handmade item in my treasury as a last minute gift. It may be kitchen towels, pot holders, coasters, or candle mats.
A homemade loaf of bread!
My last minute gift would have to be something small, like a mini quilt or a small handbag. Those I can whip up really quick.

Simone de Klerk says
Love your weekend project! And what a great idea, the measuring tape! I guess they'll be selling more (o:
Themed gift baskets tend to be easy to gather at the last minute. A gift I like to give newlyweds or young couples is a movie night basket. I get a large, colorful plastic bowl and put a few packs of microwave popcorn, several movie-size boxes of candy, a 2-liter bottle of soda and a gift certificate to the local movie rental store. I wrap the whole thing in clear or colored wrap.
Love the look of the potholders! Glad to see another "Authentic" line fan, too. I'm always drawn to fabric with writing on it!
Cookies or some kind of treat are my "go-to" last minute gifts. If I REALLY like the person, they might be getting a mug and mug rug to go along with that this year. Generally last minute gifts are not for close friends or family, so I think this is a nice, inexpensive, and easy to whip-up gift.
Love those potholders! My last minute gift is probably some kind of baked goods. Can't go wrong with sweets.
Thanks so much for having such a lovely give away!! My last minute gift idea is Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge! So good, easy to make and delicious!! Who doesn't like fudge?
Thanks for sharing your snap bag…I wondered how you put the snap into these bags…now I know the secret!!
Gift cards are an easy last minute gift. Love your potholders!

Last minute gifts usually end up being wine or chocolate. But I just went to the Daisy Janie site and found her pattern for a fabric produce bag. That's going to be my last minute gift of choice this year. (I can still put wine or chocolate in the bag!). Love your blog.
Bolo heads says

Lovely potholders! For last-minute gifts that don't have to be mailed I like to bake bread or make cookies. For stuff to be mailed (since most of our family is across the country), I'm still trying to figure that out. Gift cards are easy but feel like such a cop-out…
Hi Sherri! Cute coasters! Thanks for the chance to win.
A good, last-minute Christmas idea is simply to cook or bake something. Everyone likes to eat, especially when the food is prepared by someone else. It's the perfect gift of one's time and abilities.
I've made Snap Happy bags too! http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2010/04/friday-flaunt-sixth-ten-in-10-finished.html

Love the potholders! Very festive fabric 🙂 For a last minute gift idea…I'd have to say a nice candle would be easiest and probably well received. I'm not great on last minute stuff…too much stress :-0
Love the little snap bags. You used some really cute fabric in yours.
Merry Christmas 🙂
I love your little bags! For last minute gifts, it's usually a paper Christmas plate of homemade cookies with red cellophane (when I find it, I stock up) over it and tied with a big bow. Or, depending on the recipient, a bottle of wine and a pair of wine glasses.
My last minute gift is a bag of M&M's. Almost everybody loves chocolate. They have come out with so many different flavors. I love the new cherry cordials. So yummy! Thank you for the give away.
I try to have some bath & body items on hand for last minute gifts to tuck in a pretty bag. Also I try to keep kitchen towels that I've sewn a potholder to to hang in the kitchen on hand for gifts. I'm anxious to try some of the snap bags. They would be so cute to tuck a gift card in.
Karen P. says
very cute pot holders! I want to make some yet too!
I like to give the gift of a "Calgon Moment." A basket of bath and body products with a candle and chocolate. Love the potholders!!

I love the 12 days fabric. Love it!

Last minute…some of my homemade fudge wrapped up in a pretty container.
A measuring tape cut up? hmmmm.
My favorite last minute gift is a mug with coffee. If I had mug rugs made to go with, that would be even better. Maybe after the new year I can make a stash of them…
My favorite last minute gift is homemade Christmas peppermint bark.
For a last minute gift, you can never go wrong with a bottle of wine (unless the person doesn't drink, I guess…not a problem with my crowd, lol!)… for handmade, a simple tote bag filled with some treat for the recipient!
Food baskets are my go to last minute gift. But I may be more prepared than most. I usually include some homemade jam and a cello bag of nuts. burnt sugar nuts if I have them laying around, some nice crackers and some chocolate. People seem to really like them. Or else they just act like it for my sake!
Belle + Bee says
I make dark chocolate bark by melting bittersweet bakers chocolate in the microwave and spreading it on a parchment paper covered tray. Then I sprinkle it with pistachios and dried cherries and stick it in the fridge for a few minutes. Break it apart and wrap it in a pretty jar or even a clear plastic bag tied with a pretty ribbon…delish!!!

Laura Reese says
I've been eyeing that text and number fabric at the store for ages!
A last minute gift idea…….we make cookie mixes in mason jars for the holidays…although I try to make them ahead of time, they usually end up as a last minute gift! When we finish making them this year, I plan to post a picture on my blog. From me, last minute means I make a vegetable bag out of a lightweight material, or a bag for storing shoes in while the person is traveling.
Any kind of handmade item is a great last minute gift. Thanks for the giveaway!!!
Last minute gift idea… definitely mug rugs, made by me!
Lets see…I always have some scrap fabric that I can whip up a little zippered bag for girls and well for boys I ususally do a gas gift card . I try and keep Christmas tins, plates or other containers that I can put some of our homemade goodies with a little ornament attached. (I try to get lots of those things on clearance each year to have on hand for the next years "quickie" gifts.) LOVE the little snap Happy bag. Saw them on another blog as well.
Gift cards make great last minute gifts! And with all of the cute tutorials on how to make little gift card holders/envelopes out of fabric scraps, one can still add a little bit of homemade goodness to a rather mundane gift 🙂
Last minute gifts…….Have to assume that is for someone not on your standard gift list, or you would be prepared. So, how about those jars with mixes in them… like spice tea mix or cookie mix.
My favorite last minute gifts are potholders, super easy and super quick!

Shamefully, my last minute gifts are typically IOUs or whatever I can find at a drugstore!!!
I want to tell you that if I win, I'll be paying this one forward to a couple of friends of mine. I was at their house a couple of weeks ago and their potholders are pitiful little things, lol. They are renovating their home from the ground up practically because they found a BUNCH of termite damage the inspectors missed 🙁 So I guess potholders aren't all that high on their priority list.
Very cute potholders! My last minute gift is usually a great smelling candle or a gift card! LOL Thanks for the giveaway! 🙂

I love the pot holders! They would make a nice last minute gift. 🙂 I usually do gift cards or home baked goodies.

A fabric bowl or basket is an easy and quick last minute gift. Which I'm going to have to make! I rec'd a gift in today's mail from my brother and SIL, which I didn't expect. Altho I always made them something special for their birthdays, I didn't this year. So I really, really need to make something this weekend! Eeeks!
My last minute gift idea is usually a gift card. I know, so boring! Thanks for the giveaway.

It depends on who the gift is for. I have in the past been able to put together reasonably priced gift baskets of some kind. body stuff for a single gal, family movie night for a married gal (or sometimes body stuff).
Men….gift certificates to all the fun men toy stores bass pro, dick's sporting goods or Home depot etc.
a nice bottle of wine is always nice also.
Of course there is always Edible Arrangements 🙂
Thanks for the opportunity.
Depends on how last minute it is..ha…like..right when you are walking out the door? Gift card on the way? Got a couple of day…a cute reusable tote filled with goodies.
