Favorites: New Quilt Books

One of my favorite parts of quilt market is getting to see some of the newly released quilting books. Having a booth made it a little more difficult for me to get around and see everything, but there were two books that came my way that I’d love to share today.

The first book I fell in love with is Desert to Sea: 10 Quilts from Australian Designers which is a lovely book compliled by Jane Davidson of Quilt Jane.

Jane’s delightful book features ten “beautiful, eclectic quilts designed by eight inspirational Australian quilters.” The quilts feature simple shapes as well as more complicated designs: there are quilts designed with straight pieces and plenty of quilts with curves. There is piecing and applique, and the designers have brilliantly used color and texture in the beautiful quilts. And of course, there are several I want to make.

One nice feature about the book is the addition of blank design pages for four of the projects: these are helpful for helping the quilter decide on colors and color placement. Jane self-published her book through Amazon and did a beautiful job.

Another fun book that came home with me from Quilt Market is Little Big Stuff: Pint-sized Play Sets to Sew for Kids written by Michelle Jensen.

Michelle’s book actually won’t be available until August, but is available for pre-order on Amazon now. This fun book features play sets and projects to sew for kids. There is a good variety of projects including: aprons; kitchen accessories; camping gear including a tent, sleeping bag, duffel bag, and pillow; and baby doll accessories. I absolutely love the patchwork sleeping bag and will be making two of them later this summer for Christmas gifts!
