Farmer’s Wife Quilt Blocks

Hello and happy Thursday! Today I’m sharing a little bit of my catch-up sewing for the Farmer’s Wife 1930’s quilt along. Market sewing and preparation really took over my schedule for a few weeks, and I struggled to keep up. After returning home some Farmer’s Wife blocks were high on my to do list!

This quilt along has been terrific, because the tutorials have all been excellent. Choosing fabrics really has taken more time than some of the blocks because the directions are well-written and easy to follow.

First up are my Granny (#41) and Jenny (#45) blocks. When I get behind on a project I begin with the current week…so these are the blocks for the week I returned home. I used the Marti Michell template set A for both of these blocks with great results.

This is block #45, Jenny. I didn’t have a solid that I felt worked well, but I did feel like the blue print that I used for 6 of the triangles really worked as a solid. The other prints both seemed to get enough attention without overwhelming the block.

I’ve been getting positive feed back for showing the block backs, so I’ll continue to share those…

I also caught up by making blocks #78, #49, and #94 (these were the blocks that were made the week I left for market).

For block #94, Susannah, I just did the math in my head and used the easy-corner triangle method. It worked out well and was nice to have a simple to piece block to make. If you are unsure about measurements, you can always look at the rotary cutting file to double check you are cutting the correct sizes.

This is block #78, Old Maid. I also used the Marti Michell template set A for this block (although I made the quarter square triangle section in the middle using my quarter square triangle technique.

Finall…block #49, Katherine. This one was so much fun. If you look at block #94 above you’ll see that they are actually very similar. I used the same method, making easy corner triangles from squares rather than cutting triangles for my block. When I can do the math easily, I like to use this method.

Well…I was caught up for a short minute anyway…I need to make the three blocks for this week and then get my block tutorial ready for next week…my first tutorial for this quilt along will be on November 13th.
