I’ve noticed that even the new release of Flea Market Fancy seems to be quickly dwindling…some pieces are already getting hard to find. I figured I’d better get backing for a quilt before my favorite print is hard to find!
When my fabric arrived from here, this very cute hippo fabric came along too…love these little guys–how cute are they?!
And since I’m doing quite a bit of sewing right now that I can’t share yet, I figured this would be a good time for a few book reviews.Home-Spun Style is the most amazing book. Every page has delightful photography featuring homespun style in every room of the house. There are textiles of all kinds–fabrics, linens, and quilts. The colors are both vintage and fresh (lots of aqua)! Basically, the book is eye candy on each and every page with wonderful text detailing hints and ideas for home decor and artful living. I still haven’t finished reading the whole book, but I’m definitely savoring every beauty-filled page!
Another book I’ve recently been reading is Denyse Schmidt: Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration: 20 New Designs with Historic Roots (Stc Craft / Melanie Falick Book) . Again, this is an absolutely wonderful book. Denyse presents 20 new designs with historic roots. The history of each quilt is easy reading yet absolutely fascinating. I’ve enjoyed how Denyse relates the colorful past of each design. The Resources and Reference section is highly detailed also…there are several books I’m going to put on the list for my summer reading! The quilts, as usual, are amazing. And finally, the photography is beautiful; there are flat shots and style settings for all of the quilts–giving lots of inspiration in and of themselves!
Finally, I’d like to mention Studio Spaces: Projects, Inspiration and Ideas for Your Creative Place (Better Homes & Gardens Crafts). This is another book filled with wonderful photography of amazing studios. The featured studios are of different types–general craft rooms, paper-crafting, sewing and quilting; however, the organizational ideas and tips apply to every craft studio. Every page is full of ideas and inspiration–definitely a book I will refer to again and again! Normally I try to check out books from the library before deciding whether or not to buy them, but with each of these I took a chance and have not been disappointed!
Thanks so much for stopping by…have a wonderful day!

I really appreciate your reviews. :0) Thanks for sharing. And oh is that fabric gorgeous or what. :0) I was curious. Do you have a set amount you typically buy for backing?

I love looking at new books and these all look great! I think I could wear the first one out, and the last one would be used a lot too. I'll have to check my library. Thanks for the review!

We have an amazing library system. I often check out quilt books to preview as well. I have a stack to return and more to put on reserve.

That's my favorite Flea Market Fancy fabric, too.
Will you tell me about the hippo fabric….where did you get it, what's it called? I might have to have some.
