Today is the day! I finally get to share a little Bright Sun fabric love and introduce my new patterns. It’s kind of crazy to think that the fabric arrived on my doorstep just under two weeks ago…there are quite a few pictures in this post because…well…I love the fabric and the quilts!
Bright Sun was inspired by our beautiful southwestern sunrise and sunset times of the day. There are beautiful pinks, aquas, turquoise, teals, and sunshine yellows. There are also a lot of wonderful low volume prints…and polka dots (there had to be polka dots). Bright Sun will debut at International Quilt Market later this week and will be shipping to stores in October. I’ll be sharing more details about all of the different prints and fabrics after I return from Quilt Market.
Now for the patterns. There are six new quilt patterns and one new mini pattern. First up is Dream Catcher. This quilt uses just 13 fat quarters. Choose your favorites…or make it scrappy from your stash. My quilt was pieced by my friend Kaitlin of Knot and Thread. Kaitlin is a fantastic seamstress and quilter, and she did a beautiful job with the quilt. I loved that she said this pattern was a lot of fun to make, too!
This was one of the quilts I decided to get custom quilting on for Quilt Market, and Natalia of Piece N Quilt really did a fabulous job. Her quilting is stunning!
I took a lot of photos of this quilt!
Paper patterns will ship by June 1st, and PDF versions are available in the shop now.
Next up is Anasazi. Anasazi is a fast and fun jelly roll quilt that goes together super fast (I pieced this one in a day). This quilt pattern is the perfect way to showcase all of your favorite prints…use a jelly roll, or use left-over 2 ½″ strips from other projects.
I had plans to make a Christmas version as well, but that will have to wait until after Quilt Market. For my Bright Sun version I had fun using the low-volume arrow print as a background fabric. My friend Val in Las Vegas did the gorgeous quilting on this one–she did beautiful swirls in the background spaces and angled lines in the chevron areas.
PDF patterns available now in the shop…and paper patterns will ship June 1st.
Next up is Shangri La! This quilt pattern calls for a Fat ⅛ bundle, but as you can see, it would also be a great scrap quilt project!
I started by making the 20 large sections of each block in the colors I wanted to feature, and after that I used almost every fabric in the collection (other than the low-volume prints). I did make this quilt in a day, too, but Chelsi came over and helped me lay out each block so I could just keep sewing. This quilt has a fun all-over pattern called “Hip Squares” and was quilted by my friend Marion in Las Vegas. PDF patterns in the shop available now with paper patterns available for pre-order shipping June 1st.
Next up is Star Bright which is also a fat quarter friendly quilt. You can use just 12 fat quarters, or you can use 24 for a more scrappy look. I used 20 different fat quarters for my quilt and even mixed in a couple of Bella solids for fun.
This was the last quilt I designed for the collection…I just had to have a star quilt. I was so excited about this pattern that it was the first one I pieced! I love how there are many different stars that appear depending on how you look at the quilt!
My friend Val in Las Vegas did the incredible custom quilting on this. I love how she incorporated circles, pebbles, and geometric accents. It’s really stunning.
I really do love all of the different star combinations! Since this one went to the printer first, paper copies will ship by May 22nd. PDF versions are in the shop now.
And of course there had to be a mini! Star Bright Mini is a four-block mini that still showcases that fun secondary star in the middle. I loved making this little quilt. Thanks so much to my friend Gail who did the quilting! Paper patterns ship June 1st, and PDF versions are available for download now.
Next up is Bliss. I wanted a quilt that used every single fabric in the Bright Sun collection. We really have a wonderful selection of low-volume and light prints, and so this quilt is able to be pieced without any additional fabrics. One fat quarter bundle makes a quilt with all of your favorite fabrics.
I cut this one out, and my friend Gail pieced it for me…
My friend Marion in Las Vegas did the all-over orange peel quilting which is perfect for this design. Paper patterns ship June 1st with PDF’s available in the shop now. (There is a paper template included for the tumbler shapes).
Finally, I’d love to introduce Omaha, a fun plus-quilt pattern. This quilt uses just 16 layer cake squares with 16 matching charm pack squares. You’ll also need a contrast fabric and background. You could actually make two quilts with one Layer Cake and charm pack, or use left overs for a scrappy version (can you tell I’m always thinking about scrappy versions lately?).
I used our aqua polka dots for the contrast because polka dots are always right!
Kaitlin also pieced this quilt and Natalia did the gorgeous all-over quilting on this one!
Paper patterns shipping June 1st with PDF’s available now in the shop. The paper patterns for all quilts are also available for order in the shop…but they won’t be shipping until the end of the month (earlier for Star Bright).
Do you have a favorite pattern? We keep changing our mind over here. We’ve been trying to decide which quilts will go where in our booth…and we love them all and want to feature each one.
Thanks so much for sticking through to the end…I’ll share more about some other fun projects we’ve sewn with Bright Sun on Wednesday! And of course I’ll share photos of our booth and all of the other inspiration from Quilt Market as soon as I can!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
