This was originally going to be a “Wordless Wednesday” post…but then I had too much to say! I’ve had a Neptune charm pack for quite a while now…
hoarding saving it for just the right project. Recently I realized that Neptune and Tula Pink’s latest line, Parisville, go together fabulously!
So, with the perfect pattern (“Small Plates”) from Elizabeth’s book The Practical Guide to Patchwork: New Basics for the Modern Quiltmaker…
I started another project! I love the juxtaposition of the white with these wonderful prints and patterns. I have a new favorite quote about “white,” too; this came from the February 2011 issue of Country Living and reads: “White is not a mere absence of color, it is a shining and affirmative thing: as fierce as red, as definite as black.” –G.K. Chesterton, English philosopher
Not only does white “shine,” but it also illuminates everything around it…and I love it in this quilt! Have a great day!
Oh, and you can still enter yesterday’s giveaway here!
oh wow! I didn't even think about these two together! Can't wait to see more of it.
You're right, these two collections go together fabulously! I love the way they look right up against each other. Looks like a fun project.
Sherri you know I have always had a bit of a problem puttine white together in a block..I don't know why but it walways seemed to be very stark to me like it just was too much for some reason. But recently in the last 6 months I kinda started using a little bit more of white and then in Jan. made a decision to try and use white in a whole quilt that I make this year. Now I know for some that is not stretching it but for me it is. And I just worte your little saying down and I am going to post it in my sewing room to read every day….thanks for the thought…

Okay, I never thought of that but I'm going to go dig out what I have from those two lines and see what I've got! Thanks Sherri – yours looks awesome.
match made in heaven!! can't wait for the reveal!
Sometimes we just need white! It's lovely.
It's going to be gorgeous! Neptune is one of my favorites and I never realized how nice it plays with Parisville!

Love the new fabric and the project… and the quote!
You are right about the white…looks wonderful!
I love the white. I am working on a "white spaces" quilt in my head and working on creating some true white space in my life. 🙂
They look great together. I love your quote on white. A perfect way to describe it.
Peg - Happy In Quilting says
Great quote!! It explains why I like white…a color usually referred to as "not" a color.
I don't use white much, but I've noticed an increase in it's use for a while now. Do you have a specific white fabric that you use, or just any old white?
Betty Lou says
White makes every other color come to life. Certainly does in your quilt. Love it.

I like the white, too. It is pretty. I have always liked white in a quilt even more than black. So fresh, too. Nice job on this. Can't wait to see it!
That sure is a pretty quilt! Who wouldn't have plenty to say about it! 🙂 Happy quilting!

Beautiful quilt. And the quilt couldn't have defined white any better.
very, very nice! I love white in quilts. By the way on your header the quilt on the right side – what is the name of that pattern and did you get it out of a book – love it.
Love the way those two lines work together and the white is perfect!
Oooh, looks like you're having fun Sherri!
you have neptune!! *sigh* so jealous! I came a little late to the Tula Party and missed it 🙁
looks beautiful Sherri! and I love having white solids to set off the others too, almost all of the patterns and projects I am drawn to have it.
Magnolia Bay Quilts says
They look fabulous together! And that really is the perfect pattern. I didn't used to like white (or even solid fabrics), but I'm beginning to enjoy using it more and more.
QUILTING IS BLISSFUL, DI says
I used to be more of muslin colored girl in my quilts always thinking I had to use that color for "country" look—but lately I have graduated to white-white and I love the "shinning" of it–didn't know what the word was before–so thanks!!!!
and I have discovered there is nothing like pure white curtains at the windows!!!!!
It's going to look great……I love mixing fabric lines 🙂 and I love white too!! The quote is nice…..something to think about when using white.
Lori Holt says
Sherri…I totally agree about white.
White is not absence at all…to my eye…it allows everything else to shine against it's purity and clear lovliness.
I have always loved white especially in home decor…when others choose black…i always seem to go for white!
Your new project is fabulous:)
Thank you sew much for the sweet birthday wish.

I just finished this same quilt too! I'm interested to know how you are quilting it. I've debating on stippling or rows a quarter inch from each seam…not sure yet! 🙂
