Hello, friends! In December each year I look forward to writing about the quilts and projects I’ve sewn over the preceding months. But I also love looking back at things on a little more personal level. Today I’m sharing my A Quilting Life 2024: A Year in the Life post with a more comprehensive roundup of life in general. I do quarterly and mid-year reviews on a regular basis, so it’s easy for me to pull my notes and look at the year as a whole. This really helps as I’m planning out the new year, too!
A Quilting Life 2024: A Year in the Life
January, February, March
The first quarter of 2024 was super busy! My first session of my A Quilting Life Academy began in January, and it was a fabulous experience to see all of the preparation and work go out into the world. I received a lot of wonderful feedback which also helped make the work on the course all worthwhile. I was also doing a lot of sewing with our Laguna Sunrise fabrics during the first quarter of the year in preparation for sharing that new collection in the first part of March.
And I also traveled to Temecula during the first quarter to share a trunk show and to teach for the Valley of the Mist Quilt Guild. And my daughters and future daughters-in-law took a girl’s trip to Salt Lake City to celebrate.
April, May, June
The second quarter of the year was also super busy with sewing, travel, and family events! My oldest son married his sweetheart in the early part of May which was a fabulous event for our family. Then, just a couple of weeks later Chelsi and I were off to Austin, Texas to film the photos for our Family Favorites book. Early June found me in Dallas to teach and lecture at the ModaVation retreat. This event was put on for shop owners by Moda Fabrics. My husband and I also went on two short trips to Utah later in June. We visited our son who lives there on the first trip. And we also took a granddaughter on a birthday trip to Salt Lake City. (Something we are trying to do with all of the grandchildren the year they turn 10). Along with all of these events I was busy sewing with our Raspberry Summer fabric collection.
July, August, September
The early part of July was all about Raspberry Summer fabric! It was so much fun sharing this delightful collection during the season. I was also able to get to the coast for a birthday trip in July. Although it was super hot, I stayed home most of August to recover from such a busy first 7 months of the year. During August I was able to also do a bit of rearranging and organizing in my sewing room. In September I traveled to the Garden of Quilts in Thanksgiving Point, Utah. I love this yearly event and was able to teach three different classes to amazing quilters. In late September we were also able to travel with some friends and stay for a few days at their cabin in Panguitch, Utah–another relaxing time after a busy time!
October, November, December
I spent most of the early part of October getting ready for Quilt Market (and then also attending it during the final week of October). Even though all of my major projects were finished during the summer, I just can’t help making small things to help decorate our booth. I really enjoy that small project sewing. In November we hosted our family Thanksgiving dinner and enjoyed having all of our children and grandchildren present. Unfortunately, some of us caught a bug and had a 24–48-hour period of yuck after. But I’m still so grateful we were all able to get together. This month we’ve worked really hard to get a little ahead and have wrapped our filming for the year as of December 12th. We’ll be back in the studio the first full week of January!
End of the Year Reflection + Takeaways
I knew at the start of 2024 that there would be some really busy times on my calendar. So I was careful to safeguard time before and after those really busy weeks. I’m looking forward to doing the same thing next year. I’ve already scheduled all of my teaching for the year and won’t add anything else. And thankfully, most of my teaching is rather close to home in 2025!
I’m really looking forward to some fun time in my sewing room at the end of the year. At this time I like to clean things up and get organized for the new year. I’m also implementing new routines and systems in my personal life. Hopefully this will help me to stay on top of things and also do a little more reading than I got done in 2024. For me, looking back and looking ahead really helps me to stay on track!
Thanks so much for stopping by for this more reflective round-up of my A Quilting Life 2024. (You can find the previous year in review posts here).
Happy quilting!
