Simply Small Quilt Projects for the New Year

Happy Saturday! And welcome to the first Simply Small Sewing post of the new year! I was supposed to have this ready yesterday, but a not-so-fun head cold really had me sidelined the last couple of days. Anyway, I'm feeling much better now and ready to kick off this year's program. While I was sick I did get a little organizing done in my sewing room...(if I had taken a "before" picture of this table it might have been scary--well actually, it was scary which is why I didn't take a picture)...but I organized my table and got all of my thread up on my new spool holder.

I had been in need of a new thread storage method for quite a while and was so happy to find this one!

Okay...so without further ado...here is the first project for this year's Simply Small Sewing. I love Moda Candy projects, and this is a great one because it makes a good sized table topper and uses just one Moda Candy pack.

I actually made the sample topper a few years ago using one of my first Moda Candy packs ever--a pack of Verna by Kate Spain. I featured a tutorial for this on my blog back in 2009 and just recently made up the PDF for the directions.  You basically make 4 blocks which each use just 9 Moda Candy squares. Four candy squares are used in the inner border, and you finish it off with an optional outer border.

I made another sample block today to double check my math (this block was made with some of Gina Martin's Sewing Box--such a happy collection).  So...this is the project for next month's parade on the 10th of February! I can't wait to see all of the versions you will make. I have the pattern for free through Monday night for my regular blog readers on my Craftsy site (this will be much easier than me e-mailing hundreds of pdf files).  While the pattern is free to download, if you have not done so already you will be required to register for a free Craftsy account.  After Monday I will charge a small fee for the pattern...so be sure to download it now. Make your table topper and send me a photo by February 9th for the parade/prizes on the 10th!

Oh, and here are some "Simply Small" project photos sent in this month...I know we were all busy with the holidays...so there are just a few today. First up is a beautiful notebook cover by Lisa

And then a cute breakfast mat by Karen...

And some table runners...the first one by Christine,

 One from Sharon...

And one from Vickie!

And...just in...this adorable simply small Valentines runner from Carol!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I look forward to seeing all of the table toppers next month!

PS Did you know Craftsy is offering a free block of the month class for 2014? You can find it here!

So cute! I just downloaded the pattern. I hope to make it soon! Did you get the e-mail with my picture of the zippy bag for this Simply Small parade? I had used a tutorial from Moda Bakeshop and Marmalade fabric. I can resend if I need to.

This is fantastic! Thank you for the pattern as well as the heads up on the free Craftsy class. I'm so new to quilting and I really appreciate stuff like this to keep me inspired in the sewing room. Have a great day!

Darn -- with all the holiday happenings, I forgot to take a photo and send it in for the parade. I made a drawstring bag, but I'll save it for another parade. :-) Thanks for the inspiration and motivation.

I love your quilt and everyone's small projects look great! I've been following the block of the month at Craftsy. I'm not sure I'm going to do the quilt, but the color theory is great and I've learned quite a bit just in the first lesson.

Hi! I'm new here. You have a lovely blog. :) I was wondering what pattern you used for your quilted spools wall hanging?

Thanks!
