This weekend I’ve been sewing with Breakfast at Tiffany’s…one of my favorite Fig Tree lines. I just love the blues and browns in this line…and the colors just say “fall is here” to me!
This is Joanna’s pattern “Vanilla & Blooms,” the “Vanilla Cakes” version–I’ve been wanting to try out this version since starting the “Vanilla & Blooms” quilt earlier this summer (I still need to finish my Vanilla & Blooms quilt…have a bit more applique’ to finish on it). Also, I almost made this “Vanilla Cakes” version with Bliss…I think the fun style of the fabric would look great in this pattern.
It’s just amazing to me that these two quilts are the same pattern…a simple reversal of the darks and lights creates two very different quilts (this photo is from before I started working on the applique’ flowers). I really don’t know which version I like better…I’ll have to decide when both are quilted and finished.
And this is what I spent time reading this weekend…(Quiltmania and American Patchwork and Quilting are my two favorite quilting magazines)…and Camille’s new book, Simplify with Camille Roskelley: Quilts for the Modern Home (Stash Books) . I pre-ordered Camille’s book back in April, and it arrived at my house on Friday! I knew there would be great photography and that the book would be written in the same fun style as Camille’s blog, but I didn’t realize there would be so many great patterns and projects included in the book. There are actually 13 different projects–pillows, a table topper, and quilts of several different sizes. I can see myself making every single project…so this in an incredible value to have so many ideas in one book. Also, there are great tips and hints for beginners (and more experienced quilters, too) in the front of the book. The icing on the cake is the fun quotes that are sprinkled throughout; this is definitely a book you’ll want to add to your quilting library!
I’m hoping to really work on some works in progress and get them finished up this week…also, I have lots of e-mails to reply to in my in-box…that’s on the list for first thing this morning!

These quilts are both beautiful! Love those soft colors. I was staring that them wondering if they were the same pattern, and then I kept reading and found out they are. Very cool to switch the placement of the lights and darks. Looks like you've got some great inspiration with those magazines. Always fun to have new quilting and sewing magazines.
